About the role
Lead a team of welders to meet production goals while maintaining high-quality craftsmanship. In addition to performing welding tasks, you will organize workflows, communicate effectively with team members and supervisors, and support continuous improvement efforts.
Responsibilities
- Lead and assist employees to meet the production schedule while maintaining personal production responsibilities.
- Assign tasks and distribute workload effectively to meet daily production requirements and deadlines.
- Communicate effectively with employees, supervisors, and other areas (e.g., documentation, reports).
- Identify resources required and maintain appropriate inventory levels for the assigned work area.
- Assist the supervisor with employee performance appraisals and hold employees accountable for company expectations (e.g., safety, attendance, code of conduct).
- Support the team in achieving SQDIP metrics (Safety, Quality, Delivery, Inventory, and Productivity).
- Complete Continuous Improvement activities to enhance processes and productivity.
- Actively engage in welding, demonstrating high-quality craftsmanship while adhering to safety protocols.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Post-high school education preferred.
- Proficiency with computer skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and internet applications.
- Prioritize safety, following safety and environmental requirements and work procedures.
- Assist with safety-related investigations, including root cause analysis and completing action items.
- Ability to prioritize and meet customer delivery dates.
- Understanding of Bill of Material structure and product flow; knowledge of the metal fabrication industry is preferred.
- Ability and motivation to learn and understand operations in assigned areas (e.g., CNC machine operation, fabrication, welding, paint, installation).
- Strong communication skills with employees and all levels of management.
- Leadership, flexibility, and interpersonal skills to identify, analyze, and solve problems, as well as train and mentor employees.
- Understanding of Continuous Improvement principles and ability to lead employees in using Lean tools.
- Proven experience in welding.
Physical Demands
- Prompt and reliable attendance; weekly schedule of 40–50 hours, with additional/flexible hours as needed to meet customer needs.
- Ability to work on concrete in various positions, including kneeling, crouching, bending, twisting, turning, and occasionally climbing.
- Ability to walk and stand on concrete for 90% of the shift.
- Ability to manually move product and materials up to 50 lbs. through occasional heavy physical exertion (lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, bending).
- Using an overhead hoist requires the ability to push and pull up to 100 lbs.
Pay
$25.00 to $30.00 per hour. This is a non-exempt, hourly position with bi-weekly pay.
Schedule
Four (4) ten-hour days, Monday through Friday. Overtime may be available on the fifth day of the week and/or Saturdays.
Location
On-site at 52182 Ember Road, Lake Crystal, MN 56055. Minimal to no travel required.
