Lead Automotive Technician

About the role

The Vehicle Maintenance Facility (VMF) for this position is located in Paterson, NJ. In this role, you will serve as a leader for lower-level technicians and mechanics in a vehicle maintenance facility. You will also personally perform the most complex repairs and maintenance on all types of motor vehicles used in the postal fleet.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical guidance and instructions to mechanics and technicians on more difficult repairs
• Conduct vehicle inspections, determine necessary repairs, and assign and schedule work for individual employees
• Diagnose vehicles and perform operational checks on engines, major supporting systems, parts and components
• Perform various computerized and electronic diagnostic tests using specialized equipment

Requirements

• Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose malfunctions in automotive components or systems
• Ability to use automotive test equipment
• Ability to make minor and major repairs to automotive components or systems
• Ability to prepare paperwork
• Ability to work with others
• Ability to work without (immediate) supervision
