About the role
The Lead Auditor of Financial Reporting Controls plays a valuable role in conducting financial audits of critical processes within the finance organization. They will lead the effort to assess governance, risks, and controls over internal and external financial reporting controls, working closely with corporate audit leadership, finance, investment operations, and business area management.
Responsibilities
- Conduct financial audits of the finance function to determine the nature of operations and formulate objective opinions on the adequacy, effectiveness, efficiency, and compliance of systems/processes reviewed.
- Develop, execute, and manage a risk-based audit plan, focusing on financial reporting controls, and collaborate with business management and other risk/control functions to ensure controls are effective in managing risks.
- Work with Corporate Audit Leadership to lead and implement a strategic audit financial review plan for key watch items within the finance function. Review and update the audit plan with Corporate Audit Leadership.
- Use high-level independent judgment to verify and analyze processes, transactions, documents, and records for adequacy, irregularities, and inconsistencies.
- Carry out substantive audit procedures over various income statement and balance sheets in accordance with International Standards on Auditing (ISA's).
- Prepare and present financial audit findings to key stakeholders.
- Lead professionals in conducting financial reporting control audits and advisory services in accordance with professional standards and department policies and procedures, while demonstrating a strong understanding of risk concepts, including inherent and residual risks, as well as how to assess the design and effectiveness of internal controls.
- Monitor control deficiencies impacting financial reporting controls and validate effective remediation plans and timely closure.
- Assist in the development of a world-class internal audit capability through continual enhancement of quality, coverage, timeliness, accuracy, and value.
Requirements
- 10+ years audit/risk work experience within the financial services industry.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field of study.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification or active candidate.
- 2+ years’ experience in US GAAP and/or NAIC Statutory accounting and reporting.
- 2+ years’ experience with Investment Accounting and Investment Data.
Ideal Qualifications
- MBA, CPA, CIA, CFA, or other professional designation.
- Excellent communication skills both orally and written.
- Demonstrates versatility in communicating up, down, and across the organization by working with others and leading discussions with various levels of management across the enterprise.
- Demonstrates a strong understanding of risk concepts including inherent and residual risks as well as how to assess the design and effectiveness of internal controls.
- Possesses high integrity, professional skepticism, and strong business sense.
- Strong analytic and problem-solving capabilities.
- Ability to identify solutions that effectively address business and control needs.
