Lead Assembly Technician - Second Shift

About the role

Join the power movement as Lead Technician on the Assembly Team at CFS. You will oversee and organize small technician teams to conduct all assembly activities to construct the SPARC Tokamak. This includes handling, aligning, and integrating large electromagnetic coils, vacuum vessels, instrumentation systems, support structures, tooling, and manipulation equipment, diagnostic systems, and superconducting cable bundles.

Responsibilities

  • Day-to-day activity management and coordination of technician teams to complete assembly operations, per the overall schedule
  • Work order review, including mechanical, welding, electrical, and lifting tasks
  • Participation in major on-site operations, such as important component lifts and movements
  • Inspection buy-off (visual confirmation only) for tasks completed by technician teams
  • Daily updates to the rest of the Assembly team on status of each operation or work orders and what was completed that day
  • Assignment of each technician or technician team to specific operations and work orders, as needed for the schedule priorities determined by the planning
  • Cordination with out-of-house work teams working on specialized sections of SPARC assembly when they arrive, ensuring that all teams can efficiently complete their work on time
  • General troubleshooting of any issues with assembly as they arrive, and coming up with workarounds to problems, or elevating the issue as necessary
  • Assistance in all aspects that helps and keeps the technician teams moving forward as smoothly as possible
  • Notification to Assembly Engineers of problems or need for non-conformance reports in a specific assembly
  • Coordination with the Assembly Testing Team on their upcoming or ongoing activities, to ensure that each day all teams can efficiently and safely complete their work
  • Daily kick-off meetings and shift-change meetings to outline what is being done that shift, which team is working on what, what the major important events (like big lifts) are that need to be communicated, safety hazards of the day, and all other details that will help the teams work efficiently and safely

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent experience
  • 7+ years in a highly technical assembly role; e.g., aerospace/aircraft, semiconductor, oil & gas, power plants, wind, racing & automotive
  • 2 to 3 years overseeing a team of five people or more
  • Experience completing large scale projects end to end
  • Experience assisting lifting operations
  • Knowledge of standard joining and integration methods (bolted interfaces and flanges, welding, epoxies, etc.)
  • Highly self-motivated, organized, and passionate about their work
  • Highly safety conscious

Qualifications

  • 10+ years in a highly technical assembly role; e.g., aerospace/aircraft, semiconductor, oil & gas, power plants, wind, racing & automotive
  • 3+ years leading a team of ten people or more
  • Can operate a forklift
  • Ability to use basic machining tools; e.g., lathe/mill
  • Experience creating designs for tooling
  • Experience using JIRA, Manufacturo, or other software based tracking
  • Experience with organizing rigging and direct oversight of heavy components lifting
  • Knowledge of rigging and lifting best practice
  • Knowledge of vacuum systems and clean room best practices
  • Knowledge of cryogenic systems
  • Prior experience in independent design and construction of small fixtures and tooling
  • Experience with metrology tools and precision alignment of components
  • Willingness to occasionally travel for required nights/weekends/on-call
  • Dedication to safety to mitigate industrial hazards that may include heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead (Pb), high voltage, and cryogenics
  • Willingness to travel or work required nights/weekends/on-call occasionally

Skills

  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs
  • Perform activities: Stooping, typing, standing, or sitting for extended periods of time
  • May need to operate in small confined places in odd locations
  • Work locations could include being on platforms around 25 feet high
  • Dedication to safety to mitigate industrial hazards that may include heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead (Pb), high voltage, and cryogenics
  • Willingness to travel or work required nights/weekends/on-call occasionally

Pay

$32 - $52 an hour
Salary range for this full-time position + equity + benefits. The actual salary will depend on level, location, qualifications, and experience. The range displayed on each job posting reflects new hire salaries for the position across all US locations.

Schedule

Hours: 3:00 pm - 11:30 pm
10% differential
