About the role

West Star is the fastest growing maintenance repair organization in the industry. As a Lead Aircraft Maintenance Technician, your main focus will be leading a team of technicians to produce timely results of the highest quality and accuracy. The role requires strong analytical skills, imagination, and problem-solving abilities with a technical orientation. You will be essential in directing project flow, utilizing manpower effectively, and ensuring both job completion and quality are prioritized.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the team to complete necessary jobs/tasks, using good judgement in day-to-day tasks and involving your manager when needed.
  • Implement a strong turnover of work to the next shift.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce aircraft turn time within your area of responsibility.
  • Train and mentor technicians assigned to your projects.
  • Supervise team members in daily workload, working independently on multiple projects while maintaining schedule and quality.
  • Perform general mechanical functions on aircraft, including removal/installation of panels and components, repair work, and sheet metal repair or installation.
  • Troubleshoot and evaluate aircraft systems when designated.
  • Inspect and evaluate aircraft and components as required.
  • Handle aircraft movement, performance runs, and taxiing.
  • Maintain and repair shop facility, equipment, and tooling to support operations.
  • Work with customers in project management, pricing, and support roles.
  • Communicate effectively in English (speaking, writing, reading).
  • Perform any other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor or management.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent and Airframe and Powerplant License (required).
  • Valid driver’s license approved for airline travel and/or a valid passport (ideal but not mandatory).
  • Aircraft-specific factory training (preferred).
  • 8+ years in aviation maintenance (preferred).
  • 4+ years in program-specific airframes.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and lead small groups in daily tasks.
  • Demonstrated comprehensive knowledge of the job as a subject matter expert.
  • Self-motivated team player able to perform in a fast-paced environment with specific deadlines and time constraints.
  • Reliable attendance, including overtime and weekend assignments; must notify supervisor in advance if unable to work.
  • Reliable transportation to work daily.
  • Perform all work in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) guidelines.
  • Follow all company and safety rules while maintaining customer-oriented work habits.
  • Direct work and flow of multiple projects and supervise team members in daily operations.
  • Complete work orders and FAA paperwork.

Physical Requirements

  • Lift at least 50 lbs.
  • Routine walking, bending, squatting, or sitting.
  • Routine or repetitive physical motion with arms and hands.
  • Basic personal computer operations.

Mental Requirements

  • Understand and implement regulations and guidelines.
  • Troubleshoot or evaluate system operation.
  • Work professionally with others and coordinate projects.
  • Demonstrate team management skills.

Supervision

Will directly supervise multiple technicians. Works under the supervision of an assigned Team Leader and Operations Manager, and collaborates with other Team Leaders on multiple projects.

Working Conditions

  • Majority of work in a hangar environment with exposure to very hot or very cold temperatures.
  • Work outside during aircraft runs.
  • Varied positions in and around the aircraft.

Equipment Used

  • Personal hand tools (supplied by the mechanic).
  • Pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical equipment.
  • Jacks, stands, lifts, and other support devices.
  • Tugs, power carts, and other engine-powered equipment.
  • Personal computer and work order prints.

Pay
