Full-time on-site position located in Chattanooga, TN, USA.

About the role

As a Lead Aircraft Detail Technician at West Star, you will oversee a skilled team, guide project flow, and ensure the highest standards of quality in aircraft detailing. This role offers autonomy to work independently while leading multiple projects and includes direct customer interaction. The weekend shift schedule is Friday–Sunday, 6am–6:30pm, with a 11.11% shift differential and a 3-day workweek.

Responsibilities

  • Perform wash, wax, and detail work of aircraft interiors and exteriors.
  • Polish, buff, or treat aircraft sections as required.
  • Assist with shop floor clean-up and other minor cleaning duties.
  • Monitor and inspect aircraft detailing.
  • Work independently on projects and lead multiple projects assigned.
  • Schedule and ensure work quality, demonstrating excellent drive and initiative.
  • Work with customers in project management, pricing, and customer support roles.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce aircraft turn time within your area of responsibility.
  • Train and mentor employees.
  • Supervise team members in daily work and project management for completion of projects.
  • Effectively and clearly communicate (speak, write, read) in English.
  • Complete work orders, FAA paperwork, and logbook entries.
  • Perform any other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor or management.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver’s license approved for airline travel and/or a valid passport is ideal.
  • 5+ years’ experience in aircraft detailing preferred.
  • Experience supervising four or more team members highly preferred.
  • Self-motivated, flexible, and skilled at working in a fast-paced environment with specific deadlines and time constraints.
  • Must attend work every day as scheduled, including overtime and weekend assignments.
  • Must notify supervisor in advance if unable to work.
  • Reliable transportation to get to work each day.
  • Perform all work in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration guidelines.
  • Follow all company and safety rules during performance of duties.
  • Maintain customer-oriented work habits.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift 30 pounds.
  • Routine walking, bending, squatting, or sitting.
  • Routine or repetitive physical motion with arms and hands.
  • Climbing on ladders up to 12' in height.
  • Working on various work stands in and on aircraft wing area on a routine basis.

Mental Requirements

  • Understand basic job functions and guidelines.
  • Work with others in a professional manner.
  • Coordinate projects and manage teams.
  • Strong communication skills.

Supervision

  • Work under the supervision of the Paint Manager.
  • Directly supervise multiple technicians.
  • Collaborate with other Team Leaders on multiple projects.

Working Conditions

  • Majority of work accomplished in a hangar environment, which can include extreme heat or cold.
  • Work in aircraft on the ramp may occur.
  • Varied positions in and around the aircraft.

Equipment Used

  • Pneumatic buffers and sanders.
  • Various rags, towels, and cleaning equipment.
  • Floor cleaning machine.
