Lead Admission Counselor (DAY SHIFT)
About the role
The Lead Admission Counselor at Masonicare Health Center - Wallingford is responsible for tasks related to the patient admission process. Duties include registering patients, conducting patient interviews, explaining policies and financial responsibilities, obtaining all admission package signatures and consents, updating and distributing daily census and bed availability information, verifying primary insurance benefits and existing Title XIX and Medicaid benefits, preparing monthly reporting, obtaining pre-authorization, assisting with admission inquiries, maintaining public relations, assisting with pre-admitting patients, initiating calls to families regarding consents, following up with long term care admissions, notifying specific facilities about bed availability, supporting short term consents and long term care admissions, setting up meetings with hospitals and assisted living facilities, updating assessment pro with admits and discharges, adding new ascends of long-term admissions, maintaining waiting lists, and performing other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities
- Registers patients and conducts patient interviews
- Explains policies and financial responsibilities
- Obtains all admission package signatures and consents
- Updates and distributes daily census and bed availability information
- Verifies primary insurance benefits and existing Title XIX and Medicaid benefits
- Prepares monthly reporting for State and MHC Administrator and Quality Measures
- Obtains pre-authorization and verifies by Finance Department
- Provides backup for Admissions Assistant functions regarding consent signing
- Responds to admission inquiries via hospital, referral source, telephone, or walk-in
- Maintains and fosters public relations with customers, internal and external
- Assists in responding to admission inquiries
- Provides assistance with pre-admitting patients to all levels of care
- Initiates calls to families regarding consents and follows up with long term care admissions
- Notifies specific facilities regarding bed availability
- Supports short term consents and long term care admissions
- Sets up meetings with hospitals and surrounding assisted living facilities
- Updates Assessment Pro with admits and discharges when needed
- Adds new ascends of long-term admissions
- Maintains waiting lists and provides updates to those waiting for a bed to open
- Provides support to other departments with waiting list needs
- Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements
- High school education or equivalent
- At least one year of experience in a healthcare setting, preferably in an admissions/insurance verification setting

Qualifications
- Knowledge of/reasonable ability to learn reimbursement programs, such as Medicaid/Medicare
- Excellent organization and communication/customer service skills
- Knowledge of various software programs including Word, Excel, Outlook
