Lay Up Operator

About the role

The Lay Up Operator position at Hexcel's Casa Grande, AZ, USA site is a key role in the manufacturing of advanced composite materials. This position involves manual operations, repairs, and rework tasks to ensure product quality meets customer specifications.

Responsibilities

• Manually lays-up sheets of Nomex paper, glass, and other materials on top of each other to build blocks.
• Repairs and reworks a wide variety of nonconforming materials containing uncured adhesive to meet customer specifications and dimensions.
• Sets-up the lay-up table and checks equipment to ensure proper functioning.
• Lays up material by overlapping adhesive lines, heating each sheet, and maintaining an accurate sheet count until the specification for the block is met.
• Completes and maintains routings and production run sheets.
• Uses a variety of tools and the rework oven to repair and rework nonconforming materials.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of six months experience in manufacturing, preferably in similar roles.
• Proficient in use of tape measure and ruler.
• Basic working knowledge of computer data entry functions preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
• Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

• U.S. citizen, U.S. national, person lawfully admitted for permanent residence, temporary resident under sections 210(a) or 245(A) of the Immigration and Nationality Act, person admitted in refugee status, or person granted asylum.
