About the role
The Lay Up Operator position at Hexcel's Casa Grande, AZ, USA site is a key role in the manufacturing of advanced composite materials. This position involves manual operations, repairs, and rework tasks to ensure product quality meets customer specifications.
Responsibilities
- Manually lays-up sheets of Nomex paper, glass, and other materials on top of each other to build blocks.
- Repairs and reworks a wide variety of nonconforming materials containing uncured adhesive to meet customer specifications and dimensions.
- Sets-up the lay-up table and checks equipment to ensure proper functioning.
- Lays up material by overlapping adhesive lines, heating each sheet, and maintaining an accurate sheet count until the specification for the block is met.
- Completes and maintains routings and production run sheets.
- Uses a variety of tools and the rework oven to repair and rework nonconforming materials.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of six months experience in manufacturing, preferably in similar roles.
- Proficient in use of tape measure and ruler.
- Basic working knowledge of computer data entry functions preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
- Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

- U.S. citizen, U.S. national, person lawfully admitted for permanent residence, temporary resident under sections 210(a) or 245(A) of the Immigration and Nationality Act, person admitted in refugee status, or person granted asylum.
