Pacific Pros is seeking a Mechanical Construction Inspector for Los Angeles World Airport (LAWA) in Los Angeles, CA. This is a full-time, on-site position starting April 2026.

About the Role

Serve as the Owner's representative, supporting LAWA’s construction inspection and working as a member of the LAWA Quality Assurance & Construction Inspection Division across multiple projects within LAWA’s Capital Improvement Program.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect the construction of a wide variety of airport improvements and utilities projects to ensure conformance to plans, specifications, contracts, permits, environmental documents, and agreements for work.
  • Conduct comprehensive daily inspections of mechanical and plumbing systems across building and terminal construction projects, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and project specifications.
  • Review and interpret construction documents including blueprints, shop drawings, submittals, RFIs, and change orders.
  • Prepare comprehensive daily inspection reports documenting all observed construction activities, progress, issues, deficiencies, or safety concerns.
  • Verify contractor compliance with local and national mechanical and plumbing codes, and LAWA-specific standards.
  • Track and document time-and-material work, field changes, and job quantities.
  • Assist in validating contractor progress payment requests based on an approved schedule of values.
  • Support special inspections and testing activities, coordinating with engineers, contractors, and third-party agencies as needed.
  • Perform inspections of mechanical and plumbing installations, including but not limited to:
    • Domestic water and sewage systems
    • Venting, fire sprinklers, and gas piping
    • HVAC systems (air handlers, chillers, boilers, ductwork)
    • Smoke control systems
    • Mechanical ventilation and exhaust
    • Fire and life safety integration (e.g., smoke dampers)
    • Mechanical and plumbing shutdowns, lockout/tagout procedures
    • Commissioning and balancing reports
    • Underground utilities
    • Fire life safety systems including smoke/heat detectors and FM-200 suppression systems

Requirements

  • High school diploma (or equivalent).
  • 3+ years of experience performing mechanical inspections for building construction.
  • Thorough knowledge of materials and methods used in plumbing, heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration installations.
  • Current ICC certification as a Commercial Mechanical Inspector.
  • Proof of Cal-OSHA 30-hour training within the last 4 years.
  • Fall protection and harness training.
  • Must be able to work any assigned shift (day, swing, or night) to meet contractor schedules.
  • Must be locally available on-site for this field position.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Additional ICC certification as a Commercial Plumbing Inspector.
  • NFPA 70E standards training within the last 3 years.
  • Plumbing experience (journeyman/master level) with progression into inspection.
  • Experience inspecting mechanical systems of large-scale commercial, industrial, or public buildings.
  • Confined Space Entry Training.
  • Experience overseeing compliance with building codes on significant construction projects.
  • Involvement in complex projects requiring coordination with multiple stakeholders.
  • Expertise in identifying and addressing deficiencies to meet required standards.
  • Strong understanding of diverse code requirements (CBC & CMC).
  • Excellent communication and time management skills.

Skills

  • Proficiency in project management information software (e.g., Microsoft Office, Outlook, Excel, Word, PM Web, Adobe Pro, Bluebeam).
  • Ability to review and utilize electronic equipment for contract documents, including change orders, submittals, RFIs, and inspection documents with minimal supervision.

Schedule

  • Typical dayshift: 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM or 5:00 AM – 1:30 PM, Monday to Friday.
  • Night shift: 10:00 PM – 6:30 AM, Sunday.
  • May require working modified schedules, including nights and weekends, based on contractor activities and project schedules.
  • Overtime may be required to meet project deadlines.

Pay

Prevailing wage position. Candidates with a BS degree in Engineering may be considered for higher compensation.
