LAWA Construction Inspector, Electrical

Pacific Pros is seeking a Construction Inspector for Construction Projects to represent Los Angeles World Airport (LAWA).

Work Location: LAWA requires candidates to be local for this position.

Status: Full-time on-site.

Opening: February 2025, Immediate Working Hours: TBD, typical dayshift is 6:00am – 2:30pm or 5:00am – 1:30pm M-F; night shift is 10:00pm – 6:30am Sun.

Responsibilities

• Serve as Owner's representative.
• Support LAWA’s Quality Assurance & Construction Inspection Division across multiple projects within LAWA’s Capital Improvement Program.
• Ensure compliance with applicable codes and project specifications during comprehensive daily inspections of electrical and IT systems across building and terminal construction projects.
• Review and interpret construction documents including blueprints and shop drawings, submittals, RFIs, and change orders.
• Prepare detailed daily inspection reports that clearly document the WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, and HOW of all observed construction activities, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and accountability in tracking progress and identifying issues, deficiencies, or safety concerns in a timely manner.
• Verify contractor compliance with local and national electrical codes (e.g., NEC, NFPA 70, 70E, 72) and LAWA-specific standards.
• Track and document time-and-material work, field changes, and job quantities.
• Assist in validating contractor progress payment requests based on an approved schedule of values.
• Support special inspections and testing activities, coordinating with engineers, contractors, and third-party agencies as needed.
• Perform inspections of electrical installations including, but not limited to: Underground utilities and duct banks, High-voltage switchgear and electrical panels, Conduit racks, conductors, and grounding systems, Interior and exterior lighting systems, Fire life safety systems including smoke/heat detectors and FM-200 suppression systems, Electrical shutdowns, lockout/tagout procedures, and breaker coordination.
• Inspect IT infrastructure installations such as: Low-voltage systems (voice/data, security, access control), Door card readers, security cameras, and public address (P.A.) systems, Communication cabling and equipment rooms.

Requirements

• Current ICC certification as a Commercial Electrical Inspector.
• Proof of NFPA 70E standards training within the last 3 years.
• Proof of Cal-OSHA 30 hr. training within the last 4 years.
• LAWA SIDA badge prior to official start.
• Must be able to work any assigned shift - day, swing, or night - as required to meet the contractor’s construction schedule.
• Having an engineering degree is preferred.

Qualifications

• 3 years or more experience performing electrical/IT inspections for Building Construction.
• Strong working knowledge of City of Los Angeles and County of Los Angeles Standards.
• Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
• Requires a detail-oriented professional with extensive field experience and a strong commitment to safety and compliance.
• US Employment Authorization without needing sponsorship.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• A valid Driver’s License and compliance with PACIFIC’s Vehicle Policy.
• Proficiency with common Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook), SharePoint and Adobe Acrobat (PDF files).
• 3+ References from Clients.

Skills

• Computer proficiency to review and utilize electronic equipment for contract documents efficiently, including change orders, submittals, RFIs, and other inspection documents, with minimal supervision.
• Expertise in identifying and addressing deficiencies, ensuring that all aspects of construction meet the required standards.
• Strong understanding of diverse code requirements.
• Excellent communication and time management skills.
