About the role

Serving as a Law Enforcement Specialist (Driver Instructor) GS-1801-12 makes you a valuable member of the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC) team and mission. This position is located in the Cheltenham Driver Training Branch (CDT), Cheltenham Training Division (CTR), Office of Cheltenham Operations (OCH), under the National Capitol Region Training Operations Directorate (NCR) and located in Cheltenham, Maryland.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting training classes for personnel and coordinating, planning and executing field training and lab exercises that are typically conducted outdoors.
  • Monitoring progress of students, documenting results, and/or recommending remedial and corrective action to include additional training, changes in training and/or operational procedures and instructions.
  • Conducting research on emerging technology, practices, and techniques to enhance instructional knowledge and skill.
  • Using life experiences from law enforcement to enhance course content and responding to student questions within the driving training subject matter area.

Qualifications

  • Possess experience as a sworn law enforcement officer or agent with full arrest authority in the prevention, detection, apprehension, detention and/or investigation of felony and/or misdemeanor violations of federal, state, local, tribal, or military criminal laws.
  • Have held a federal civilian position in the 1801 occupational series.
  • Specialized Experience: Instructing basic and advanced law enforcement training curriculum in the driver topical areas to include: emergency response (ER); non-emergency vehicle operation (NEVO); traffic stops; pursuits; evasive driving; and/or, precision intervention techniques using front wheel and rear wheel drive sedans, full size and mid-size sport utility vehicles, all-terrain vehicles, and special use vehicles.

Pay

Salary range for this position is $74,652.00 to $111,975.00 per year, based on experience and qualifications.

Work schedule is flexible and may vary based on training needs and program requirements.
