Law Enforcement Security Officer: Armed Patrol Hazard Recognition

About the role

As an Armed Patrol Law Enforcement Security Officer in Honolulu, HI, you will serve and safeguard clients in industries such as government and transportation. This part-time role allows you to build a flexible schedule using our Claim a Shift platform. Monitor and patrol assigned areas, maintain a visible presence to deter security incidents, and respond professionally to situations. Provide exceptional customer service, clear communication, and support a welcoming environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide customer service to clients by carrying out security-related procedures, site-specific policies, and emergency response activities.
• Respond to incidents and critical situations in a calm, problem-solving manner.
• Exercise sound judgment and render immediate, appropriate decisions under stressful conditions.
• Demonstrate maturity in conduct, behavior, and attitude; follow instructions and accept responsibility for actions.
• Maintain alertness, attentiveness, and professional conduct.
• Recognize, respond to, and take corrective action in various situations.
• Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, in English.
• Maintain courtesy in interactions with the public, airport employees, tenants, law enforcement, and security personnel.
• Conduct regular and random armed patrols of airport facilities, terminals, parking areas, and perimeter locations to deter unauthorized activity.
• Monitor access points, restricted areas, and vehicle or pedestrian activity; report suspicious behavior, hazards, and policy violations.
• Maintain required documentation, including patrol logs, incident reports, and daily activity records.
• Handle assigned equipment in accordance with applicable policies and regulations.
• Provide court appearances for citations issued on behalf of DOTA, with replacement staffing provided as needed.

Requirements

• 2+ years of professional law enforcement experience in the U.S. after graduating from a certified law enforcement academy (Federal, State, or County level).
• Graduate of a Law Enforcement or Military Police Training Program or equivalent (must provide credentials upon applying).
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Law Enforcement Officer License.
• 22+ years of age.
• Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
• Completion of one of the following approved programs:
  • Certified State law enforcement recruit training.
  • Certified County law enforcement recruit training.
  • Federal law enforcement training.
  • Programs approved by the Director.
• No felony convictions or convictions for abuse of a household member under the Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968 (18 U.S.C.922(g)(9)).
• No documented truthfulness infractions in violation of Giglio/Henthorn for federal impeachment proceedings.
• No record of moral turpitude, domestic violence, untruthfulness, or mental/emotional disorders that may interfere with performance.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Subject to a background investigation and drug screen in accordance with federal, state, and local laws.
• Participation in industry-specific security training programs.
• Licensing requirements are subject to state and/or local laws and may be required prior to employment.

Skills

• Ability to supervise personnel and work effectively with airport management, tenants, law enforcement agencies, and the public on security-related matters.
• Strong moral character, high standards, and truthfulness.
• Comfort using a computer or tablet (preferred).
• Ability to lift more than 20 pounds (preferred).

Physical Requirements

• Mentally and emotionally capable of performing all assigned duties.
• Good physical health and capable of moderate to arduous physical exertion, including standing, walking, patrolling, climbing stairs, running, and self-defense for an entire shift.
• Ability to perform essential physical tasks, with or without reasonable accommodation, including:
  • Lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 25 lbs. for a designated distance.
  • Assisting in the safe evacuation of individuals, including carrying a small child or supporting persons with limited mobility.
• Subject to random drug screening.
• Ability to exercise physical force, if required, in the execution of official duties.
• Pass a security background check conducted by the DOTA pass and ID office.
• Well-groomed and neat in appearance as an officially commissioned representative of the State.
• Pass a one-time physical examination within the past 6 months.
• Pass a 12-panel drug test and all future random drug testing.
• Correctable vision to 20/30 in each eye with normal color vision.
• Able to hear at a normal conversational level (hearing aid may be used).

Pay

$34.50 per hour.

Schedule

• Part-time.
• Friday: 12:30 PM – 10:00 PM.
• Saturday: 12:30 PM – 10:00 PM.
