Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion Peer Recovery Support Specialist
Brief Description
LEAD is a substance use diversion service that works with behavioral health providers to divert low-level drug offenders to treatment and support services instead of jail and prosecution. Lead Coordinators assist participants in connecting to intensive interventions like detox, ACT, residential treatment, MAT, and other support services.
Target Population
- Adult men and women (ages 18+) with a history of low-level criminal behavior related to drug abuse
- Individuals arrested for low-level drug offenses
- Individuals arrested for sex selling to support their drug use
Education And/or Experience
- High School Diploma or GED
- Prior computer experience using computerized Medical Records and scheduling systems preferred
- Basic math skills
- PRSS certification for West Virginia prior to start
Position Details
- Initiate and sustain individuals in recovery from substance use
- Promote individual’s recovery by acting as a guide/mentor
- Help individuals discover, access, and utilize ways to remain substance free or reduce harm
- Link and refer individuals to resources for harm reduction, detoxification, treatment, family support, and education, and local or online support groups
- Absorb and follow through with a change plan for recovery
- Offer hope and help to avoid relapse, build community support for recovery, and work on life goals
- Provide supportive counseling services within the scope of training and competencies
- Document activities and services in a complete, accurate, and timely manner
- Maintain a level of service delivery consistent with Westbrook expectations and standards
- Work with staff, consumers, and others in a professional, cooperative, ethical, respectful, and effective manner
- Comply with federal, state, and company policies, procedures, and regulations
- Maintain confidentiality of all consumer information and comply with HIPAA and 42 CFR part 2 regulations
- Maintain a level of attendance consistent with Westbrook Health Services’ policy
- Demonstrate knowledge of and support Westbrook Health Services’ mission, vision, values, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards, and code of ethical behavior
Qualification Requirements
- Able to communicate clearly and accurately with a variety of individuals
- Work well in a team environment
- Ability to develop and make presentations to diverse groups of people, public speaking
- Able to work with a diverse group of people
- State Peer Certification
- Minimum of 24 months sobriety and no recent law enforcement involvement
