About the role
The Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) is a dedicated group of professionals committed to enhancing operational efficiency and ensuring the safety of the Central Utah Correctional Facility (CUCF).
Responsibilities
- Use tactical expertise to resolve critical incidents and life-threatening situations.
- Able to quickly respond to critical incidents, manage resources, and adapt to the situation to resolve the incident.
- Reduce drug trafficking and prison violence.
- Create lesson plans and conduct training for CIRT Agents and other staff.
- Draft and carry out operational orders and incident action plans.
- Make recommendations for revision of policy, procedure, and processes affecting the safety and security of CUCF.
- Liaison between the tactical unit and other divisions/agencies.
- Obtain and execute warrants, conduct searches, raids, and investigations, maintaining proper chain of evidence.
Qualifications
- 2 years of Correction or Law Enforcement experience.
- Must be 21 years of age.
- Must be able to attend the selection day where physical fitness, firearms, and decision-making skills will be tested.
- Must pass a full background check.
- Preference may be given to those with prior law enforcement and/or correctional officer experience.
- Applicants who are not currently LEO certified or whose LEO certification is inactive must re-activate their certification prior to obtaining employment.
- All applicants will be required to attend a selection day where they must pass a PT and firearms qualification.
- A full-service background check will be required for new hires.
- A psychological evaluation will be required for hires new to the Utah Department of Corrections.
- Selected applicants will be required to attend a Tactical Operators/SWAT School.
Risks
- Potentially dangerous or unusual environmental stress situations, e.g., working at great heights, working in extreme outdoor weather conditions, being subject to possible physical attack, etc.
- Considerable and strenuous physical exertion such as frequent climbing, lifting heavy objects over 50 pounds, crouching or crawling in restricted areas, defending oneself and/or others against physical attack.

Pay
Entry pay rate will increase for each prior year of Law Enforcement experience. See current pay plan rates here.
