About the role
The Law Clerk position at CGS supports the legal mission of a large federal agency. The role involves tasks such as litigation support, legal research, document review, and assisting with various aspects of litigation.
Responsibilities
- Performs complex legal research for trial staff
- Aids in preparing draft legal documents like motions, briefs, and memoranda of law
- Reviews and conducts research for Release of Information requests
- Reviews and researches new cases and pertinent laws
- Edits and reviews final decisions and writes/researches legal opinions on newest cases
- Edits and reviews cases for issuance
- Responds to citizen letters
- Reviews AMICUS briefs
- Briefs attorneys regarding legal issues, theories, and draft statement of facts
- Assists with all phases of litigation
- Cite checks using online legal research tools (Westlaw and Lexis) and blue book
Qualifications
- Requires a Juris Doctor (JD) degree or equivalent legal training/experience
- Sound working knowledge of federal and state court systems, legal research procedures, and legal research resources
- Extensive experience with cite checking and blue book
- Hands-on familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including word processing, databases, spreadsheets, and imaging
- Ability to consistently deliver high-quality work under extreme pressure

Skills
Experience working in a Government and/or Litigation Support environment is preferred, especially if combined with basic qualifications. Strong preference is given to experience with Relativity and publication of legal writings. Participation in Law Review is highly preferred.
