About the role
The Oregon Supreme Court and Oregon Court of Appeals are hiring for post-graduate law clerk positions that begin in August 2027. These positions are full-time and limited duration, typically for a period of two years.
Responsibilities
- Assist judges with petitions for review and opinions assigned to their chambers.
- Research and write petition memoranda and draft opinions.
- Engage in extensive discussion, editing, and proofreading.
- Prepare final opinion summaries and media releases.
- Participate in oral arguments at law schools or other locations in the community.
- Lead community tours of the Supreme Court building.
- Discuss legal issues and draft opinions with judges and fellow clerks.
- Attend trainings and continuing legal education programs.
Requirements
- A Juris Doctor degree (or equivalent) from an ABA-accredited law school by the start of the clerkship.
- Experience with legal research and writing.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Strong communication skills, particularly in legal contexts.
- Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects.

Pay
The annual salary range is $7,042 - $8,152.
Schedule
Clerks are expected to work during the court's business hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Remote work is permitted, but must be approved by the administrative authority for each court.
