About the role
Perform day-to-day tasks to maintain a clean environment in a healthcare organization. Work independently or in a team to ensure safe and appropriate handling of laundry, including sorting, washing, chemical application, and water temperature management. Follow infection prevention guidelines for handling contaminated laundry according to organizational and healthcare industry standards.
Responsibilities
- Participate in laundry collection, sorting, and distribution of clean laundry based on location-specific processes and policies.
- Collect dirty linens (e.g., gowns, sheets, towels, blankets, and personal clothing) from wards, rooms, and medical offices; distribute clean and disinfected linens.
- Complete tasks such as washing, drying, folding linens, sorting and folding clothing, and proper labeling for the healthcare organization.
- Store and secure laundry supplies and equipment.
- Use proper protective equipment (PPE) as outlined in location-specific policies.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Ability to use a computer; prior cleaning experience in a healthcare setting is helpful.
- Knowledge of materials, equipment, and methods used in cleaning.
- Depending on location, must have a valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
Physical demands
- Considerable use of arms and legs and moving of the whole body, including climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, twisting, squatting, and handling materials.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 30-50 lbs and push/pull up to 500 lbs on flat surfaces or ramps.
- Position requires standing for the majority of the shift.
- May be exposed to certain levels of noise from operating equipment.
Schedule
- Full-time, 40 hours per week.
- 8-hour day shifts.
- Work hours may vary depending on patient needs, including overtime, call, backup call, nights, days, weekends, and holidays.
Pay
Salary range: $15.00 - $17.00 per hour.
