Latin Teacher - Part-Time

About the role

The Latin Teacher at Congressional School is responsible for providing an effective learning environment through planning, organizing, developing, and assessing a comprehensive instructional Latin program for Middle School students in the seventh and eighth grade.

Responsibilities

• Develops, implements, assesses and modifies, as necessary, a dynamic Latin language program for Middle School students that aligns with Congressional School's mission, vision, and values
• Uses a variety of methods, materials, and techniques to teach Latin language and its history and culture
• Organizes classroom systems and procedures and manages student behavior to ensure all students are fully engaged and learning
• Establishes and communicates clear objectives for all learning activities
• Implements instructional activities that contribute to a climate where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences
• Affirms students' knowledge for the purposes of refining classroom activities and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding students' progress, expectations and goals
• Actively seeks opportunities for professional development
• Listens and responds to student and parent concerns in a responsible, constructive and resourceful manner
• Actively supports the school philosophy, community, and policies

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Classical Languages, or Minor in Latin/Classical Languages, strongly preferred
• Minimum 2 years' experience teaching Latin, preferably in an independent school
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience in child development and educational practices
• Strong initiative and organizational skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• An ability to work in a joyful, collegial and collaborative environment
• A sense of humor, warm personality, and growth mindset
