About the role
The Latin Teacher at Congressional School is responsible for providing an effective learning environment through planning, organizing, developing, and assessing a comprehensive instructional Latin program for Middle School students in the seventh and eighth grade.
Responsibilities
- Develops, implements, assesses and modifies, as necessary, a dynamic Latin language program for Middle School students that aligns with Congressional School's mission, vision, and values
- Uses a variety of methods, materials, and techniques to teach Latin language and its history and culture
- Organizes classroom systems and procedures and manages student behavior to ensure all students are fully engaged and learning
- Establishes and communicates clear objectives for all learning activities
- Implements instructional activities that contribute to a climate where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences
- Affirms students' knowledge for the purposes of refining classroom activities and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding students' progress, expectations and goals
- Actively seeks opportunities for professional development
- Listens and responds to student and parent concerns in a responsible, constructive and resourceful manner
- Actively supports the school philosophy, community, and policies
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Classical Languages, or Minor in Latin/Classical Languages, strongly preferred
- Minimum 2 years' experience teaching Latin, preferably in an independent school
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in child development and educational practices
- Strong initiative and organizational skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- An ability to work in a joyful, collegial and collaborative environment
- A sense of humor, warm personality, and growth mindset
