Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Associate's degree in forensic science, criminal justice, or closely related field.
- Three (3) years of latent print or fingerprint examiner experience.
Licenses or Certifications
- Have or obtain the IAI Latent Print Examiner certification within 2 years of hire.
- Must possess a valid state driver's license upon hire or promotion; and out-of-state licensees must obtain and maintain a valid Florida driver's license within thirty (30) days of hire or promotion.
Preferred Qualifications
- Three (3) or more years of experience as a Latent Print Examiner in an accredited Latent Print Unit.
- Possess and maintain the International Association for Identification (IAI) Latent Print Examiner certification.
Key Responsibilities
- Conducts automated searches including the utilization of technology such as the Biometric Identification System to rapidly identify unidentified latent print impressions recovered at incidents.
- Conducts technical and scientific examinations of exhibit material submitted by law enforcement personnel to assist with criminal investigations and to develop criminal intelligence.
- Evaluates the quality of latent prints submitted and developed to determine suitability for comparison purposes.
- Performs analysis, comparison, and identifications of inked and photographed latent finger, palm, and footprints to known standards.
- Prepares photographic enlargements to demonstrate the arrival of a conclusion.
- Utilizes the Biometric Identification System to develop candidates for latent fingerprint comparisons.
- Incorporates findings resulting from these comparisons into reports which form a basis for legal proceedings.
