Latent Print Examiner
About the Role
Join Ideal Innovations, Inc. on the Department of the Army Criminal Investigative Division (DACID) Examination Services Support (ESS) contract as a Latent Print Examiner. This position supports the Department of Defense (DoD) Warfighter in a fast-paced, high-throughput, 100% digital environment. You will work both independently and as part of a team to handle latent print requests and routine casework, playing a critical role in searching latent prints through DoD ABIS and performing complex examinations on fragmented friction ridge detail impressions.
This unique role also includes training for facial and iris examinations to support ESS biometric operations. You will utilize and refine skills in Microsoft Office Suite, Windows, Adobe Photoshop, and FBI ULW to format and encode latent print images for searching purposes.
Responsibilities
- Examine processed latent fingerprints and evaluate their quality for entry into the DoD Enterprise ABIS and other Automated Fingerprint Identification Systems (AFIS).
- Prepare latent prints for entry into ABIS/NGI using digital imaging techniques to enhance and maintain image integrity.
- Employ encoding strategies to prepare latent print search files for automated searches.
- Manually compare latent prints with candidate prints from ABIS/NGI to eliminate individuals or effect positive identifications.
- Utilize a case management/database portal system to document case notes, metrics, and prepare reports for submitting customers.
- Monitor queue applications to resolve Unsolved Latent Matches (ULMs).
- Maintain digital Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Work Instructions (WIs).
- Provide tenprint, facial, and iris examination support as necessary to the ESS Biometric Examiner operation.
- Verify all latent print identifications.
Requirements
- Education and Experience:
- Doctorate, Master’s, or Bachelor’s degree and 6 years of related work experience, OR
- Associate degree and 8 years of related work experience, OR
- High School diploma and 10 years of related work experience.
- Must be trained to competency as a latent print examiner with AFIS experience.
- Intermediate-level competency in Adobe Photoshop and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Excellent written communication and decision-making skills; customer- and detail-oriented.
- Must successfully pass proficiency testing prior to and periodically during employment.
- Willingness to work shifts (10-12 hours) on a 24/7, 365-day schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be willing to relocate or commute to Clarksburg, WV.
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret clearance.
Qualifications (Preferred)
- Current certification by the International Association for Identification (IAI); must be obtained within 1 year of eligibility if not already certified.
- Experience using Universal Latent Workstation (ULW).
Physical Requirements
Meet the physical demands of working in a general office environment, including long hours at a computer, either sitting or standing.
Schedule
- Shift work (10-12 hours) on a 24/7, 365-day schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Option to work either 10- or 12-hour days indefinitely, based on coverage requirements.
- Shift times (flexible, at management’s discretion):
- Day: 5a-5p, 5a-3p, or 7a-5p
- Afternoon: 1p-1a or 3p-3a
- Evening: 5p-5a, 5p-3a, or 7p-5a
- Primarily set shifts; no rotation.
