About the role

Areté is an employee-owned company at the forefront of utilizing innovative solutions to solve the nation’s most complex security challenges. As a Laser Production Engineer, you will build, align, and document AIRTRAC lasers, focusing on optical assemblies that require handling, cleaning, and mounting optics with various epoxies. You will collaborate with scientists, engineers, and technicians to design, develop, test, and produce lasers, while fine-tuning and aligning optical components. This role involves building, testing, troubleshooting, repairing, and modifying developmental and production electronic and optical systems, as well as setting up and using complex optical equipment to conduct measurements and testing for laser alignment, fabrication, and performance.

This is a full-time, exempt, non-supervisory position based in Niwot, CO.

Responsibilities

  • Build, align, and document AIRTRAC lasers, including optical assemblies.
  • Handle and clean optics, and mount them using different epoxies.
  • Collaborate with a team of scientists, engineers, and technicians to design, develop, test, and produce lasers.
  • Fine-tune and align optical components and lasers.
  • Build, test, troubleshoot, repair, and modify developmental and production electronic and optical systems with assistance from the production and engineering team.
  • Set up and use complex optical equipment.
  • Conduct optical measurements and testing to support laser alignment, fabrication, and performance measurements.
  • Produce professional documentation and thoroughly document setups and test results.

Requirements

  • BA/BS in Optical Engineering, Physics, or a similar relevant discipline.
  • 3 years of related experience.
  • Familiarity with electronic and optical test equipment such as oscilloscopes, power meters, optical sensors, spectrometers, cameras, lasers, and detectors.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Excellent fine motor skills.

Preferred Skills

  • Strong computer skills.
  • Background in optical alignment and/or imaging.
  • Detail-oriented approach.
  • Troubleshooting experience.
  • Procedure writing experience.

Pay

The salary range for this role is $80,000 to $105,000. Areté considers several factors when extending an offer, including the position and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, education/training, and key skills.

Other Considerations

  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Successful passage of a criminal background screen is required.
  • Selected applicants will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
  • Successful passage of a Department of Transportation (DOT) drug test is required.
