About the role

As a Large Loss Specialist, you will evaluate and handle complex insurance claims and litigation management duties within AXA XL's Commercial E&O Professional division, with a primary focus on Miscellaneous, Media, and Public Entity Liability claims. You will manage and resolve Commercial E&O complex claims made against AXA XL's policyholders, working closely with your manager and coordinating with fellow claims handlers to guide claims to cost-effective resolution. You will interact and collaborate with the underwriting team, brokers, and clients on assigned accounts, taking ownership of critical issues relating to claims management.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and resolve Primary Duty to Defend and Excess Professional Liability claims in accordance with established Claim Department guidelines, service standards, and state regulations.
  • Provide thoughtful and comprehensive coverage analysis and act as a resource to other claim handlers.
  • Support underwriting teams for policy wording and account reviews.
  • Partner with internal and external counsel in setting and pursuing effective and cost-efficient litigation strategies for resolution of claims.
  • Evaluate settlement values and negotiate claims and litigated matters within authority, as well as participate in mediations and settlement conferences.
  • Employ strategic litigation management skills throughout the life of all claims.
  • Produce internal reporting and ensure reserves are set according to best practice guidelines.
  • Coordinate and manage communications with internal and external stakeholders (e.g., underwriting, brokers, reinsurers, external vendors) to ensure the highest level of customer service.
  • Maintain high-quality relationships with policyholders and agents through frequent contact and responsiveness to their needs.

Requirements

  • Technical background in Primary and Excess Commercial E&O claims, with preferred advanced experience handling and/or supervising Public Entity, Media, and Miscellaneous Professional Liability claims.
  • Demonstrated experience in written and verbal coverage position communications with insureds and brokers.
  • Proven ability to negotiate and settle complex claims files.
  • Advanced analytical skills and sound judgment; takes initiative and works collaboratively.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, negotiation, and presentation skills, with the ability to interact internally and externally with senior management and business partners.
  • Ability to build and refine effective working relationships with insureds, brokers, claim handlers, underwriters, co-insurers, excess and reinsurers, as well as external vendors including investigators and legal counsel.
  • High dedication to customer service, including professionalism and diplomacy in broker and insured relations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree is required.
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) is preferred but not required.
  • Active adjuster’s License.

Pay

The U.S. base salary range for this position is USD $139,300-$219,300. Actual pay will be determined based on skills, experience, and location.
