Language policy and the status of languages in contemporary Catalonia: A public debate

About the role

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher in Media and Communication to join the Institute of Future Media, Democracy and Society (FuJo) at Dublin City University (DCU). The successful candidate will contribute to research on disinformation, media pluralism, and democratic resilience, working across multiple projects and collaborating with an interdisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Lead and contribute to research activities across several FuJo research projects, including those focused on disinformation, media ownership, deliberative democracy, and digital media literacy
• Conduct quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis, including surveys, content analysis, and computational methods
• Author and co-author academic publications, reports, and policy briefs for dissemination to scholarly, policy, and public audiences
• Present research findings at national and international conferences and stakeholder events
• Contribute to the design and delivery of public engagement and knowledge exchange activities, including workshops and policy consultations
• Supervise and mentor graduate students and research assistants as needed
• Collaborate with project partners across academia, civil society, and media organisations
• Assist in the preparation of research proposals and funding applications
• Contribute to the Institute's broader research culture and administrative activities as appropriate

Requirements

• A PhD in Media and Communication Studies, Political Science, Sociology, or a closely related discipline (completed or near completion)
• Demonstrated expertise in one or more of the Institute's core research areas: disinformation and misinformation, media pluralism, deliberative democracy, digital media literacy, or media policy
• Strong track record of peer-reviewed publications commensurate with career stage
• Proven experience with qualitative and/or quantitative research methods, including data analysis software (e.g., SPSS, R, NVivo, or similar)
• Experience in project management and working within collaborative research teams
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English

Qualifications

• PhD in relevant field (as above)
• Experience contributing to funded research projects, preferably EU or nationally funded initiatives
• Knowledge of Irish and/or European media policy landscape and regulatory frameworks
• Familiarity with digital research methods, including social media data collection and analysis, computational text analysis, or online trace data
• Experience engaging with policy stakeholders or civil society organisations
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple research tasks and deadlines

Pay

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, in line with DCU Postdoctoral Researcher scales.

Schedule

This is a full-time, fixed-term position for an initial period of 12 months, with the possibility of extension subject to funding.
