Brief Overview Of Major Duties

  • Cuts lawns, using mower; trims and edges around walkways, flower beds, and walls.
  • Cleans grounds and removes litter from walkways, streets, and patios.
  • Maintains clean drainage ditches and culverts.
  • Prunes shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth or remove damaged leaves, branches, or twigs, using shears, pruner, or chain saw.
  • Sprays lawn, shrubs, and trees with fertilizer, herbicides, and insecticides.
  • Operates and performs maintenance on power lawn mowers, spreader, edger, weed cutter and street sweeper such as changing oil, adjusting and lubricating parts.
  • Performs irrigation techniques using sprinklers, hoses and flooding methods.
  • Troubleshoots and makes necessary repairs to the sprinkler system as needed.
  • Digs up ground for flower beds, ditches, and holes for sign posts.
  • May operate equipment such as street sweeper equipment.
  • Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
  • Will be required to operate/drive a golf cart and other equipment for the purpose of transporting supplies around campus as needed. This may also include transporting employees, residents and/or guests when needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Requirements

    • Has knowledge of the standard practices and methods of the landscaping trade.
    • Skill in the use and care of equipment and tools used in the landscaping trade.
    • Preferably has knowledge on using iPad.
    • Training will be provided.
    • Has ability to read, understand, follow and enforce safety procedures.
    • Is organized, able to multi-task, think creatively and adapt to different situations.
    • Maintains competency in the position and knowledge of trade/industry advances and new technologies.
    • Must be able to effectively communicate in English with all levels of staff, residents, and guests.

    Education And Experience

    • Preferably has a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
    • Preferably has one year of experience in the landscaping trade.

    Licenses And Certifications

    • Has a current, valid driver’s license.
    • Driving record must meet the criteria set forth by Royal Oaks’ insurance carrier.

    Physical Requirements

    • Able to carry/lift/push/pull up to 50 pounds.
    • May need to operate a fire extinguisher.
    • Able to assist in evacuation procedures.
