About the Role

Curative Care is looking for individuals with disabilities and/or limiting conditions to join its community-based Landscape Maintenance Services team. The team provides training, employment, and a sense of purpose for men and women with disabilities and/or other limiting conditions who share an inspiring work ethic. Team members work side-by-side among supervisors and workers with and without disabilities to maintain grounds, plants, shrubs, and surrounding green space as specified by customers.

Work is laid out and frequently checked for quality by a supervisor. The role involves using simple equipment such as push mowers, leaf blowers, spin trimmers, and hand tools like trash pickup reachers, scoop shovels, rakes, garden forks, wheelbarrows, hand pruners, weeders, and spades. Tasks include one to two-step repetitive activities such as weed pulling, hand pruning, raking, picking up trash, and shoveling.

Employees receive ongoing supervision, coaching, and training for job tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain grounds, plants, shrubs, and surrounding green space as specified by customers
  • Perform repetitive tasks such as weed pulling, hand pruning, raking, picking up trash, and shoveling
  • Use simple equipment (e.g., push mower, leaf blower, spin trimmer) and hand tools (e.g., rake, shovel, pruner)
  • Follow directions from supervisors and work cooperatively with coworkers
  • Wear personal protective equipment and uniform as required

Requirements

  • Ability to follow repetitive one- and two-step tasks and take direction from a supervisor
  • Ability to safely attend to job tasks and handle equipment
  • Tolerance for an outdoor work environment
  • Ability to function cooperatively with coworkers and supervisors

Working Conditions

Physical Demands

  • Standing, walking, bending, stepping, and reaching above shoulder height on a regular basis
  • Lifting up to 50 lbs from floor to waist (may be required)
  • Gross and fine motor skills, including grasping and manipulating lightweight items, finger and thumb opposition, and reaching in front and to the sides
  • Sufficient upper extremity strength and coordination to handle equipment and tools

Environmental Conditions

  • Outdoor work with temperature variability from -15°F to 98°F
  • Exposure to windy conditions and light to moderate precipitation
  • Exposure to plant pollen, sunlight, and insects
  • Various work settings subject to interruptions, moderate to loud noise, and other environmental conditions
