About the role
Be part of a team that values connection, accountability, and real impact. You'll be part of a working supervisor who leads their team to maintain grounds within the facility. The supervisor will lead a team of landscape specialists, some who have a disability, to keep the fields and grounds of the West Point Prep Academy in tip-top shape.
Responsibilities
- Perform grounds keeping using mowers and hand-powered equipment (Ex. Blowers, 0 turn mowers, and weed whackers).
- Use equipment and drive tool cats, backhoe, sanders, and plow vehicles.
- Trim shrubs & trees, mulch around shrubs & trees, beds, seed, sweep walk ways.
- Prune trees, cut limbs, use chain saw, water & Maintain shrubbery, power wash outdoor areas.
- Groom field with power groomer, tool cats and use of all grounds power tools.
- Plow snow- handle call ins during storms, call in workers before storms, set up snow plows and prepare winter equipment before and during storms.
- Tailgate meetings with workers.
- Supervise workers on spreading salt & use of snow blowing equipment.
- Maintain inventories of tools, equipment, and stock.
- Drive work vehicles to be fixed, inspected, and maintained. Fill small cans with fuel.
- Keep all trucks & equipment fueled and ready to go.
- Meet with supervisor on day to day issues that may arise.
- Meet with vendors & contractors.
- Groom field with pull behind tractor/tool cat.
- During off & down time you will assist custodial supervisor (reset of barracks, during rain)
- Supervise custodial workers when their supervisor is off.
Qualifications and Attributes
- Able to obtain quotes and bids for jobs from vendors.
- Strong organization skills with accurate attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to multi-task.
- Hands-on experience with network administration.
- Able to adapt and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Sufficient skills to communicate effectively with system users regarding technical and business issues.
Functional / Organizational Support
- Guide your team while supporting custodial with barracks reset.
- Support Custodial inside during inclement weather (rain) with their daily functions.
- Drive in inclement weather.
Physical Characteristics
- Must be have a professional appearance.
- Must lead by example.
- Must be capable to move throughout work day and follow people served throughout community.
- Work alongside co-workers within 3 feet.
- Work well with others and in a team.
- Occasional lifting of 50 pounds.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Must be able to physically operate heavy landscaping equipment in a safe manner.
Pay
$26.00/hr
Schedule
Mon-Fri 7a-3:30 (Some weather related on-call)
