About the role
The Landscape Irrigation Supervisor is responsible for the installation, maintenance and repair of irrigation systems and all related components. This includes irrigation lines, sprinkler heads, control valves, valves, and pumps. Knowledge and ability to operate light and heavy-duty vehicles, backhoes, rakes, shovels, blowers, sprayers, chain saws, hydraulic boom, small tools and any other equipment associated with irrigation maintenance.
Responsibilities
- Knowledge and ability to operate light and heavy-duty vehicles, backhoes, rakes, shovels, blowers, sprayers, chain saws, hydraulic boom, small tools and any other equipment associated with irrigation maintenance.
- Perform hand-finishes grade, application of seed, straw, or sod, planting, weeding, digging, trimming edging, litter pick-up, spreading topsoil and other materials, as well as more specialized care of landscape plants.
- Perform duties including assisting in landscaping and hardscaping, general lawn maintenance, seasonal lawn preparation, spring and fall clean up as needed.
- Assist in field renovations, grading, and/or site clean-up tasks and assist Facilities maintenance staff on projects.
- Perform related duties to assist in landscaping and hardscaping.
- Perform snow removal activities as assigned.
- Manage personnel effectively and efficiently.
- Communicate production goals (and other items) with crewmembers, supervisors, and clients.
- Train and promote the development of subordinates in the best practices of installation and company standards.
- Monitor all tools, equipment and machinery for needed maintenance.
- Track and record all job expenses, including but not exclusively materials and hours worked.
- Maintain a clean and safe job site.
- Use of radio and telephone to communicate and follow written and verbal instructions.
Requirements
- High school degree or GED.
- State Driver’s license and insurable with company’s agent.
- Well-developed communications skills.
- 2+ years of professional grounds keeping experience required.
- Pressure washing, lawn care, landscape and/or hardscape experience is preferred.
- Have or be able to obtain a chemical spray certification.
- CDL preferred and reputable driving record.
- Previous experience managing and leading crews.
- Leadership experience and skills proven record of problem solving.
- Exceptional self-management.
- Desire to work with a team to accomplish goals.
- Urgency to grow and improve.
Qualifications
- Education and Experience: High school degree or GED. 2+ years of professional grounds keeping experience required. Pressure washing, lawn care, landscape and/or hardscape experience is preferred. Have or be able to obtain a chemical spray certification. CDL preferred and reputable driving record. Previous experience managing and leading crews. Skills
- Knowledge and ability to operate light and heavy-duty vehicles, backhoes, rakes, shovels, blowers, sprayers, chain saws, hydraulic boom, small tools and any other equipment associated with irrigation maintenance.
- Basic knowledge of computers and communication cable hookups used in the operation of the irrigation system.
- Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and drawings.
- Ability to read and understand plant species and horticulture equipment.
- Ability to read and understand instructions, and work under limited supervision.
- Ability to work well with the public and co-workers and present a positive attitude.
- Ability to maintain work areas in a clean and organized fashion.
- Ability to work on weekends, holidays, and flexible daily hours as well as various evening hours.
- Ability to use radio and telephone to communicate and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform duties of grounds maintenance and landscaping outdoors in typical Virginia climate.
- Ability to think logically and solve problems that arise with little guidance.
- Ability to maintain a clean and safe job site.
- Ability to use personal vehicle (or LU vehicles) for travel in the performance of the essential functions of this position.
