About the Role
A Landscape Crew Leader leads and manages a crew of 2–5 team members to complete landscape construction and installation projects. This role prioritizes Safety, Quality, and Efficiency, setting the tone on every jobsite through clear direction, high workmanship standards, and attention to detail.
Responsibilities
- Leadership & Crew Management
- Lead, supervise, and motivate a crew of 2–5 team members.
- Provide clear direction, daily task assignments, and hands-on training.
- Ensure all work is completed safely, correctly, and efficiently.
- Maintain strong attention to detail across the entire property, ensuring a clean, organized, and professional appearance.
- Maintain jobsite organization, cleanliness, and professionalism.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, team members, and clients.
- Monitor crew productivity and uphold company performance standards.
- Safety & Compliance
- Enforce safety protocols and ensure safe operation of all tools and equipment.
- Maintain compliance with DOT regulations and company vehicle policies.
- Ensure proper loading, securing, and transport of equipment and materials.
- Equipment Operation & Transportation
- Safely and proficiently operate landscape construction equipment, including skid steers, mini excavators, and other machinery.
- Load and transport equipment using truck and trailer combinations.
- Perform daily vehicle and equipment inspections.
- Maintain and protect company vehicles and equipment assets.
- Landscape Construction & Installation
- Perform and oversee site preparation, leveling, grading, drainage system installation (including drainage tile), hardscape paver installation, retaining wall installation, and plant installation.
- Read, interpret, and execute work according to blueprints, landscape plans, and construction drawings.
- Ensure projects meet design specifications and company quality standards.
- Plant Knowledge & Horticulture
- Demonstrate job-specific knowledge of plant identification, growth habits, spacing requirements, and proper planting techniques.
- Identify common plant diseases and landscape issues.
- Identify plant health concerns and recommend solutions.
Requirements
- Valid driver’s license.
- Must have or be able to obtain and maintain a DOT Medical Card for operating commercial vehicles.
- Proven experience loading, securing, and driving truck and trailer combinations.
- Experience leading and managing a small crew (2–5 team members).
- Proficient operation of skid steers, mini excavators, and other landscape construction equipment.
- Experience in grading, drainage installation, paver systems, and retaining wall construction.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction drawings.
- Strong understanding of jobsite safety standards and OSHA best practices.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality workmanship.
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years of landscape construction experience.
- Prior leadership or foreman experience.
- Ability to troubleshoot jobsite challenges and adjust plans as needed.
- Knowledge of irrigation systems is a plus.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds regularly.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to stand, kneel, bend, and operate equipment for extended periods.
- Ability to work extended hours during peak season.
