Landscape Inspector

About the role

The City of Coconut Creek is seeking a Landscape Inspector to perform senior-level technical or specialized work in the Sustainable Development Department. This role involves performing landscape and zoning inspections, plan review, and permitting for compliance with Land Development Code and approved site plans. The position requires monitoring and enforcing the City's Land Development Code, conducting inspections to enforce permits, ordinances, and codes, and addressing field problems with the public and developers.

Responsibilities

• Performs daily zoning and landscaping inspections
• Captures and documents field conditions through mobile inspection and reporting software
• Coordinates and administers the landscape inspection program for existing commercial properties
• Develops, prepares, and presents code cases at Special Magistrate hearings for both residential and commercial properties
• Investigates complaints regarding violations of ordinances, follows-up on complaints, and recommends measures for correcting violations
• Conducts inspections to ensure permit, ordinance, and code compliance
• Maintains communication with homeowner’s association (HOA) representatives and residents regarding the tree removal process, code violations, and horticultural advice
• Ensures conformity and consistency among field team members with City rules, regulations, and ordinances, particularly landscape, zoning, and tree preservation codes and regulations
• Attends pre-construction meetings and provides information
• Prepares checklists for final project close-out
• Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED supplemented by up to three (3) years’ experience in landscape and arboriculture
• Landscape installation and construction experience, and the ability to read and interpret plans and surveys
• Experience in code compliance work pertaining to City codes, ordinances, and regulations
• International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) certification preferred
• Additional certifications in landscaping, arboriculture, and horticulture preferred

Skills and Abilities

• Working knowledge of Florida Grades and Standards, City codes and ordinances
• Microsoft Office products (Word, Outlook, and Excel)
• Mobile inspection and reporting software
• Good customer service skills
• Reading and interpreting plans and specifications to determine compliance with established standards, especially landscape and irrigation plans
• Multi-tasking and meeting deadlines
• Independent learning and problem-solving skills
• Clear communication and understanding in English, both orally and in writing
• Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships
• Regular attendance and punctuality

Pay

$27.84/hour ($57,907.20 Annually)

Schedule

Monday through Thursday 7:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M.; Days and hours are subject to change.
