About the role

A Landscape Care Team Leader is an experienced team member responsible for directing the activities of a team of two or more on job sites. This role requires thorough horticultural knowledge as well as expertise in lighting, water gardens, and irrigation.

Responsibilities

  • Review job notes to understand the scope of work for each day
  • Plan daily tasks, labor, and equipment for current and next day’s work
  • Read, measure, and interpret landscape plans
  • Mix and apply various pesticides using proper PPE and application techniques
  • Lead team members in performing landscape services, including:
    • Landscape bed maintenance: spray and pull weeds
    • Pruning: horticulturally correct tree/shrub/perennial pruning and deadheading
    • Plant health: identify, diagnose, and treat plant diseases and insect issues
    • Irrigation: controller programming, minor repairs, and seasonal adjustments
    • Water features: care and maintenance of pumps, aquatic plants, water chemistry, and fish
    • Lighting: controller programming, repair, and replacement of low-voltage lighting
    • Floral services: annual plant identification, bed preparation, installation, layout, care, and maintenance
    • Spring clean-ups: bed cleanout, edging, pre-emergent, plant fertilization, and mulch installation
    • Blowing: using handheld or backpack blowers to clear hard surfaces
    • Snow removal
    • Any other necessary tasks
  • Operate small and medium-duty tools and equipment, including:
    • Hedge trimmers, backpack blowers, bed edgers, re-definers, rototiller, chainsaw, pole saw, string trimmer, ladder, backpack sprayer
    • Dump trailer/bed, mulching trailer, wheel loader, voltage meter, tape measure, plumb bob, level
  • Identify enhancement ideas to improve client properties and submit via issue tickets
  • Learn and maintain working knowledge of all properties, responsibilities, and work limits
  • Train and coach a team of two or more to develop their skills and ensure proper training
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and efficient job site; ensure truck/tools/equipment are properly maintained
  • Complete daily tasks on schedule and within budget to quality standards
  • Return all tools to the shop at the end of the workday and tag any tools needing repairs
  • Drive truck and trailer combinations
  • Maintain a neat, clean, and professional appearance
  • Perform daily check-ins with Group Leader by 3:00 PM to discuss project status and equipment needs
  • Work collaboratively with a positive attitude across Southern Landscape Group
  • Know and support the company’s vision, mission, and core values

Requirements

  • High school degree or GED
  • Two years of documented experience in the green industry
  • Great verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with Apple technology for time tracking and job management
  • Strong analytical problem-solving and decision-making abilities
  • Excellent customer service skills and ability to communicate with clients and professionals
  • Efficient use of Google Translate to communicate with Spanish-speaking workers
  • Valid Virginia driver’s license with an insurable driving record

Qualifications

  • VDACS Registered Tech Certification
  • CPR/First Aid Certification
  • NALP Landscape Technician Cert. - Landscape Install & Irrigation
  • VCH (Skilled) Certification

Working Conditions

  • Outdoor environment with exposure to noise, airborne contaminants, and temperature variations
  • Regularly lift 50 pounds
  • Work hours: Monday through Friday, with weekends and overtime as needed by seasonal demands
  • Typical workday: 6:50 AM to 5:00 PM

Pay

$21.01+ per hour
