About the role
The Staff Landscape Architect is responsible for developing site analysis documents, site design studies, site plan reviews, and alternatives for a wide range of projects related to the overall campus short term and long-term development.
Responsibilities
- Developing detailed design documents for site development projects including; site demolition, grading, layout, planting plans and specifications that can be used to solicit prices from contractors and provide for project construction.
- Reviewing landscape design and construction documents submitted by outside design firms for work at College Park and at the client institutions.
- Providing project management support for site projects at College Park and at the client institutions.
- Aiding in the development of landscape architectural guidelines and campus standards.
- Assisting in storm water management projects, as needed.
- Performing basic architectural/engineering calculations.
- Preparing specifications, reports and related data tables.
- Maintaining liaison with design and drafting groups.
- Preparing, reviewing, and approving drawings as required.
- Independently performing advanced technical assignments of various complexities within approved schedules and budgets.
- Coinciding technical and administrative activities with employees in other disciplines and other departments participating on an assigned project.
- Assisting in the training and evaluation of assigned architectural and design/drafting personnel.
- Developing conceptual design site studies in computer formats, detailed construction site design documents, storm water management and site environmental plans, as needed and participating in presentations for in-house landscape architectural and site projects.
- Assisting in the development of scopes of work, project schedules and budget estimates, and soliciting services.
- May participate in the evaluation of credentials, references, fees and services.
- Supporting design reviews of campus site, storm water, and environmental projects for Facilities Management when outside consultants are utilized.
- Providing support to P&C-Technical Support’s quality assurance unit with respect to updates to the Design Criteria/Facility Standards (DC/FS) areas associated with Landscape Architecture, storm water management, and site-specific design.
- Researching options and alternatives for campus design standards as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Architecture degree plus 4 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
- Master's degree in Architecture preferred.
- 5 years of experience as an Architect preferred.
- Ability to become a licensed architect in the future.
- Experience with Adobe Suite, Autodesk Revit, Enscape, Rhino and SketchUp.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point).
