About the role
We are seeking a skilled Land Surveyor to join our team, supporting or leading survey projects across residential, commercial, industrial, municipal, and mixed-use developments. The successful candidate will perform and oversee boundary, topographic, ALTA/ACSM, MassDOT, and as-built surveys, prepare plats and legal descriptions, manage client communications and project deliverables, and ensure accuracy, regulatory compliance, and on-time delivery of survey products.
Responsibilities
- Perform boundary, ALTA/ACSM, topographic, MassDOT, and as-built surveys for residential, commercial, industrial, municipal, and mixed-use projects.
- Plan and execute construction layout and staking, control networks, traverse, and GPS surveys using Trimble and other modern survey instrumentation.
- Prepare and review plats, record drawings, metes and bounds descriptions, easements, legal descriptions, and other survey deliverables.
- Produce accurate survey calculations, data adjustments, and quality control checks; verify correctness of coordinates, bearings, and distances.
- Use AutoCAD (and Civil/Map modules if applicable) to create and edit plats, site plans, and deliverables; manage CAD file organization and standards.
- Coordinate with clients, engineers, attorneys, planners, and municipal officials to resolve boundary and permitting questions and to obtain approvals.
- Develop proposals, prepare scope of work and estimates, manage project budgets, and monitor project financials and timelines.
- Ensure compliance with state and local codes, licensing requirements, and professional standards; prepare materials for recording at the registry of deeds or municipal offices.
- Conduct site visits, research property records, and perform deed research for boundary determination, easement, and rights-of-way analysis.
- Implement quality control procedures and peer reviews for survey computations, plats, and final deliverables.
Requirements
- 2+ years of progressive field and office experience as a Land Surveyor; experience leading projects preferred.
- Proficiency with survey instrumentation and data collectors (Trimble or similar) and experience performing GPS, total station, and control surveys.
- Strong CAD skills, including AutoCAD and/or Civil 3D for plat creation, drafting, and deliverable production.
- Experience with boundary surveys, metes and bounds, easements, legal descriptions, platting, and record research.
- Familiarity with ALTA/ACSM surveys, MassDOT requirements, topographic surveys, construction layout, as-built surveys, and land development projects.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to interact with clients, engineers, attorneys, and municipal officials.
- Strong analytical and mathematical skills for survey calculations, data adjustment, and quality control.
- Working knowledge of relevant codes, registry/recording procedures, and professional standards.
- Ability to work outdoors in variable conditions, possess a valid driver’s license, and have reliable transportation.
