Land Conservation Director

About the role

The Buzzards Bay Coalition (BBC) seeks an experienced real estate professional with strong project and program management abilities to lead our Land Conservation team. This role focuses on increasing the pace of land conservation projects within the Buzzards Bay watershed.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Land Conservation team in identifying, negotiating, and completing land conservation projects.
• Develop and implement strategies to accelerate the pace of land conservation in the Buzzards Bay watershed.
• Manage complex real estate transactions, including acquisitions, easements, and partnerships with landowners, government agencies, and other stakeholders.
• Oversee project budgets, timelines, and reporting to ensure successful outcomes.
• Collaborate with internal teams, external partners, and funders to secure resources and support for conservation initiatives.
• Represent BBC in public forums, meetings, and negotiations related to land conservation efforts.

Requirements

• Proven experience in real estate, land conservation, or a related field, with a strong background in project and program management.
• Demonstrated ability to manage complex transactions and negotiations.
• Experience working with landowners, government agencies, nonprofits, and other stakeholders.
• Strong leadership and team management skills.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
• Commitment to the mission of land conservation and environmental stewardship.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in real estate, environmental science, natural resource management, or a related field (advanced degree preferred).
• 5+ years of relevant experience in land conservation, real estate, or project management.
• Familiarity with land protection tools such as conservation easements, fee acquisitions, and public-private partnerships.
• Knowledge of the Buzzards Bay watershed or similar coastal ecosystems is a plus.
