Lactation Specialist

About the role

The Lactation Specialist works in collaboration with the direct nursing staff and the physician to assist the patient in achieving a satisfactory start to successful breastfeeding; and assisting with the implementation of short and long range goals applying to breastfeeding that are identified by the nursing staff providing direct patient care.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with direct nursing staff and physicians to support breastfeeding success
• Avoids discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, genetic information, or any other characteristic protected by law.
• Assist in the development and implementation of breastfeeding goals
• Provide guidance and support to mothers on breastfeeding techniques and issues
• Document patient interactions and progress in accordance with hospital policies and procedures
• Participate in ongoing education and training related to lactation support

Requirements

• Ability to work effectively and harmoniously with others
• Able to manage own time and work independently
• Demonstrated specialized knowledge and skills in the area of lactation
• Baby-friendly experience preferred
• Current BLS provider card required

Qualifications

• High School graduate, GED or equivalent
• Graduate of a recognized Lactation education certification program (CLE)
• Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC)
• Member of a professional organization preferred
• One (1) year experience in acute care as a lactation consultant
• Working as a lactation specialist in an outpatient center is preferred

Pay

$33.71 to $53.93 per hour
