About the role
The Lactation Consultant RD or RN in Maternity will focus on education, assistance, and support of breastfeeding for women and children. The position functions as a member of the health care team to promote, support, and protect breastfeeding.
Responsibilities
- Provide education and support to mothers and infants regarding breastfeeding techniques and issues.
- Assist mothers with breastfeeding challenges and provide guidance on successful breastfeeding practices.
- Collaborate with other healthcare providers to ensure optimal care for breastfeeding mothers and infants.
- Conduct research and contribute to evidence-based practices in lactation care.
- Participate in staff meetings and training sessions to enhance skills and knowledge in lactation care.
Requirements
- Graduate of NLN, CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA accredited school of nursing, or three years of related professional nursing experience.
- Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) with a valid license to practice in the state of Indiana as listed in the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC).
- Certification by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBCLC) certification required within one (1) year of hire.
- One (1) year of RN experience required; one (1) year of Lactation Consultant experience in a hospital setting preferred.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required for Registered Dietitian.
- Certification by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBCLC) certification required for Registered Dietitian.
- One (1) year of experience as Registered Dietitian with IBCLC certification.
- High School Diploma or GED required for Non-Registered Lactation Consultant.
- One (1) year of Lactation Consultant experience with IBCLC required.
