About the role

The Lactation Consultant is an expert in the management of the breast-feeding mother-baby dyad. This role acts as coach, consultant, teacher, and lactation expert working collaboratively with the Newborn nursery, the Pediatrics clinic and nursing care teams to develop feeding plans for a range of infants from the normal newborn to the complex neonate.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the breast-feeding mother-baby dyad
  • Develop feeding plans for a range of infants
  • Collaborate with the Newborn nursery, the Pediatrics clinic and nursing care teams
  • Provide information and care with consideration of mental, emotional, cultural, social, and physical factors
  • Work under pressure and with a varied population including staff, physicians, patients, vendors, and other members of the public on a regular basis

Requirements

  • Vocational/Technical Associate’s degree, vocational or technical school degree. (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
  • International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Valid multi-state or State of Oklahoma Registered Nurse License, preferred

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of pharmaceuticals and the effects on lactation for antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum patients and newborns to toddlers
  • Excellent teaching, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Advanced knowledge of the breastfeeding process, antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum health care, and psychosocial issues
  • Ability to work under pressure and with a varied population including staff, physicians, patients, vendors, and other members of the public on a regular basis

Pay

Commensurate with education and experience

Schedule

  • Full-Time: Typically, Monday to Friday, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
  • Part-Time: Up to 20 hours weekly
