About the Role

Coaching positions available for the Briar Woods High School boys' lacrosse program. The season runs during the spring from February to May.

Responsibilities

Head Coach

  • Assist in maintaining high academic standards for all student athletes.
  • Assist the athletic director and principal in the hiring and/or retention of assistant coaches.
  • Direct, supervise, and regularly evaluate the performance of all assistant coaches.
  • Work cooperatively with the athletic director to ensure proper insurance coverage for all athletes.
  • Collaborate with other head athletic coaches to operate a well-balanced athletic program.
  • Foster appreciation for athletics, a desire to win, good sportsmanship, and pride in self, team, school, and community among participants and spectators.
  • Direct the training, conditioning, and performance of the varsity team and supervise assistant coaches in their efforts with assigned teams.
  • Act as a positive influence on the behavior of athletic staff and team members.
  • Personally direct the team at all varsity contests and attend as many junior varsity and freshmen contests as possible, including supervision at invitational meets or post-season competition.
  • Advise the athletic director on schedule preparation, selection and evaluation of officials, and equipment and supply needs for the sports program.
  • Manage inventory and care of equipment.
  • Report on the condition of athletic facilities and needs for their preparation and maintenance.
  • Ensure eligibility lists for athletic contests are prepared and maintained under VHSL rules.
  • Recommend removal of athletes from the team when training or eligibility regulations are not met.
  • Ensure all athletes have passed medical examinations before the regular practice season begins.
  • Organize tryouts and recruit support staff such as equipment managers, scorekeepers, statisticians, and ball runners.
  • Maintain records, statistics, news items, and photographs for the teams under supervision.
  • Recommend students for varsity letters or junior varsity/freshman certificates.
  • Recommend prospective coaches to the athletic director upon request.
  • Observe sub-varsity practices and games.
  • Perform other duties related to the position as requested by the principal and/or athletic director.

Assistant Coach

  • Work cooperatively with the head coach to operate a well-structured program.
  • Collaborate with the athletic department.
  • Attend all staff meetings prescribed by the head coach during the season.
  • Carry out specific duties designated by the head coach.
  • Recommend equipment and supplies needed for the sports program.
  • Suggest disciplinary actions for players violating training rules and procedures.
  • Foster a desire to win, good sportsmanship, and pride in school and community among athletes.
  • Perform other duties related to the position as requested by the principal and/or athletic director.

Requirements

  • Coaching experience or participation in lacrosse at the high school or college level.
  • Completion of CPR and First Aid training or enrollment in a current course.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience as a teacher or classified employee in Loudoun County Public Schools.
  • Virginia Teaching License candidate or full-time classified employee for Loudoun County Public Schools.
