About the Role
Works on construction projects in a utility capacity, performing varied tasks with the ability to work without close supervision.
Responsibilities
- Measures distances from grade stakes, drives stakes, and stretches tight line.
- Bolts, nails, aligns, and blocks up under forms.
- Signals operators of construction equipment to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery to conform to grade specifications.
- Levels earth to fine grade specifications.
- Mixes concrete and smooths and finishes freshly poured cement or concrete.
- Positions, joins, aligns, and seals pipe sections.
- Erects scaffolding, shoring, and braces.
- Mops, brushes, or spreads paints or bituminous compounds over surfaces for protection.
- Sprays materials such as water, sand, steam, vinyl, paint, or stucco through hose to clean, coat, or seal surfaces.
- Applies caulking compounds by hand or with caulking gun to seal crevices.
- Grinds, sands, or polishes surfaces such as concrete, marble, terrazzo, or wood flooring.
- Demolishes buildings, saws lumber, dismantles forms, removes projections from concrete, mounts pipe hangers, and cuts and attaches insulating material.
- Performs other duties pertinent to the department or unit’s success as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Minimum one (1) year construction laborer experience.
- Previous firewatch experience preferred.
- Driver’s License and an acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under company vehicle insurance policy preferred.
Working Conditions
The work environment includes regular exposure to:
- Outside weather conditions and extreme cold.
- Moving mechanical parts and high, precarious places.
- Wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, or airborne particles occasionally.
- Moderate noise levels.
Physical Requirements
- Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and talk or hear.
- Occasionally required to sit.
- Must wear steel-toed boots on the job.
- Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
