Laborer - Pipe Layer
Responsibilities
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine layout and installation procedures.
- Excavate and grade trenches using hand tools or equipment.
- Align and position pipes to ensure proper slope and seal.
- Install various types of pipe (e.g., PVC, ductile iron, concrete, steel) for storm drains, water mains, and sewer systems.
- Connect pipe pieces and seal joints using cement, glue, or welding equipment.
- Lay pipe to required depth and alignment based on plans.
- Backfill trenches and compact earth using manual or mechanical methods.
- Operate or assist with heavy equipment as needed (e.g., excavators, trenchers).
- Follow all OSHA and company safety procedures.
- Inspect completed work to ensure conformance to specifications.
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
- Proven experience as a Pipe Layer or similar construction role.
- Ability to read construction drawings and perform layout tasks.
- Familiarity with different pipe materials and installation methods.
- Strong understanding of job site safety practices.
- Physical stamina to perform heavy labor and work in varied outdoor conditions.
- CDL or equipment operator certification is a plus.
