About the role

This position will be responsible for completing tasks personally and supervising a crew as a working labor foreman. All activities will be performed in support of the strategy, vision and values of JE Dunn.

Responsibilities

  • Support construction activities on a jobsite by working with tools, coordinating jobsite activities which may include prep for and placement of concrete, carpenter tender, demolition, site cleanup, loading, unloading, handling and distributing materials, fixtures, running a buck hoist, and traffic control
  • Complete tasks personally and supervise a crew as a working labor foreman

Autonomy and Decision-Making

  • Makes decisions on assigned areas of responsibility
  • Provides recommendations to supervisor and refers all exceptions to supervisor, as needed

Key Role Responsibilities – Core Labor Foreman Family

  • Learn and actively participate in all aspects of the company’s safety culture by demonstrating commitment to an injury-free environment through individual actions and mentoring others
  • Work with tools to complete specific assigned tasks on a project
  • May track and report units and labor hours, including filling out and submitting timecards
  • Maintain proper care and the appropriate number of tools and equipment necessary to support production specific to a project
  • Lead and monitor safety and security procedures within the crew
  • Understand and achieve crew production goals
  • May establish labor crew sizes that align with production goals
  • Document key information such as activities, production and crew sizes
  • Communicate with suppliers and coordinate delivery of supplies to jobsite
  • Understand and maintain established quality levels associated with duties
  • Coordinate other trade work associated with the assigned scope of work
  • Participate in all safety activities such as toolbox talks, job hazard analysis, jobsite analysis and SIMS reporting
  • Provide on-the-job guidance and willingly share subject matter expertise in order to support team member learning and development
  • May coordinate inspections for assigned scope of work
  • Participate in punch list completion

Key Role Responsibilities – Additional Labor Foreman 2

  • Manage labor crews for portions of projects or a small project
  • Create, communicate, monitor and achieve labor crew production goals
  • Coordinate work for larger labor crews and/or other trade foremen
  • Coordinate preplanning activities for project components such as crew size, schedule, materials, meetings and manpower
  • Coordinate usage of all aspects of construction project resources, including internal and external support
  • Create and implement safety plans and ensure compliance through use of training, toolbox talks and communication with safety representatives
  • Support project quality assurance/quality control planning to ensure quality for assigned tasks
  • Apply and lead Lean principles and practices on the jobsite such as daily stand-up meetings, pull planning, etc.
  • Assist with MOC (Materials and Other Costs) and equipment analysis

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to perform work accurately and completely, and in a timely manner
  • Communication skills, verbal and written – Intermediate
  • Proficiency in MS Office
  • Knowledge of organizational structure and available resources
  • Ability to apply Lean process and philosophy
  • Knowledge of self-perform and labor productivity
  • Knowledge of specific trades and scopes of work
  • Knowledge of the means and methods of construction management
  • Knowledge of crane flagging and rigging – Intermediate
  • Acquire knowledge of productivity rates
  • Ability to assess and optimize labor productivity
  • Ability to lead crews and achieve production goals
  • Ability to build relationships and collaborate within a team, both internally and externally

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED (Required)
  • Vocational/Technical degree in related field (Preferred)
  • In lieu of the above requirements, equivalent relevant experience will be considered

Experience

  • 3+ years commercial construction experience (Required)
  • 2+ years field supervision experience (Required)

Working Environment

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • May require periods of travel
  • May be exposed to extreme conditions (hot or cold)
  • Must be willing to work non-traditional hours to meet project needs
  • Frequent activity: Standing, Walking, Climbing, Bending, Reaching above Shoulder, Pushing, Pulling
  • Occasional activity: Sitting, Viewing Computer Screen
