Laborer
SA Recycling, an industry leader in the metals recycling and processing industry, is seeking a hard-working, dependable, and safety-minded individual to join our team as a Laborer.
About the role
As a Laborer, you will perform various tasks including general housekeeping, metal processing, upgrading, and assisting technical workers. This position offers opportunities to learn new skills, progress to more technical tasks, and become more independent. Work is performed outside in varying weather conditions, and SA Recycling strictly adheres to all Metals Recycling Business Health, Safety, and Environmental standards.
Responsibilities
- Unloading pallets, boxes, and bundles
- Material handling/sorting: pushing, pulling, picking, lifting, carrying, filling hoppers, boxes, and conveyor belts
- Unpacking boxes using box cutters, separating plastics, zip ties, blister packs, and other packaging materials
- Disassembling small equipment, cutting wires, torquing pipefittings, removing bolts, automobile parts, and appliance parts
- Working with recycling equipment for processing metal product (e.g., metal shears, band saw, wire strippers)
- Directing traffic of yard vehicles traveling through the yard
- Light facility maintenance: painting, scraping, moving furniture and equipment
- Maintenance tasks: selecting and using tools properly, pulling and installing parts for machinery, assisting with machinery repair
- Housekeeping: sweeping, cleaning, shoveling, and debris collection
- Moderate and periodic landscaping work
- Cleaning up work area at the end of shift
- Keeping work areas neat and orderly
- Organizing materials for more effective use of space
- Disposing of various waste materials appropriately
- Inspecting to ensure cleanup is completed
- Maintaining effective housekeeping for safety and hygiene
- Performing all other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Must pass a medical physical and drug test
- Must pass a background check
- Preferred: high school diploma or GED
- Ability to communicate effectively, understand direction (written or oral), and use basic math skills
- Willingness to learn how to sort metal, identify colors, shapes, and weights, properly maintain equipment, and utilize PPE

Schedule
Working hours are from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm Monday through Friday, and from 7:30 am to noon on Saturday as scheduled. Overtime may be required based on business needs.
