Responsibilities
- Load, unload, or identify building materials, machinery, or tools, distributing and returning them to the appropriate locations
- Install or remove signage, railings, or other various hardware
- Dig ditches or trenches, backfill excavations, or compact and level earth to grade specifications, using picks, shovels, pneumatic tampers, or rakes
- Operate hand or power tools such as air hammers, earth tampers, cement mixers, small mechanical hoists, surveying and measuring equipment or other as required
- If certified, operate heavy equipment such as backhoe, bobcat
- Assist in erecting or dismantling scaffolding, shoring, braces, traffic barricades, ramps, or other temporary structures
- Clean or prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards
Requirements
- 6 months experience working as a commercial or industrial construction laborer
- Experience operating required hand and power tools
- Strong reading, written and verbal communication skills in English, verbal communication in Spanish considered an asset but not required
- High School Diploma, GED or equivalent required
Physical Demands and Working Environment
- Work is performed primarily in an outdoor setting with exposure to all types of weather and temperature conditions, and travel from site to site
- Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting and field environment; to walk, stand, and sit for prolonged periods of time; to frequently stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, reach, twist, grasp, and make repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties
- To lift, carry, push, and/or pull moderate amounts of weight up to 50 lbs without assistance and greater than 50lbs with assistance
- To operate assigned equipment and vehicles
- To verbally communicate to exchange information
