About the role
This position reports to the Foreman and provides essential support to the Construction Operations department. This is a full-time, hourly non-exempt role.
Responsibilities
- Cleanup of debris, grounds, and buildings
- Stripping of concrete framework, including removal of exposed ties
- Unloading of materials and deliveries to Project Site
- Hand excavation, digging of trenches, raking, tamping, compacting soil
- Placing concrete in formwork including horizontal formwork for flatwork
- Vibrating concrete
- Setting up of ladders, means of access, scaffolding and planking
- Wrapping and covering with tarps, polyethylene or insulating blankets
- Mixing mortar and grout including grout beneath structural and mechanical baseplates
- Backfilling, grading, or raking
- Laying of drains, sewers, water distribution, PVC conduits or other piping in the trench (pipe layer)
- Assembly of manholes, catch basins and drainage structures (pipe layer)
- Tending all other trades including materials handling on site prior to final installation
- Handling and placement of riprap, slope protection, erosion control, and siltation control materials
- Spreading and rolling of bituminous asphalt
- Screeding of concrete
- Patching holes in concrete surfaces
- Demolition activities
- Hand grading of earth materials, curb setting, and landscaping
- Setting and stripping concrete sidewalk forms
- Installation and removal of temporary weather protection
- Handling, rigging, and setting of precast concrete slabs, planks, walls, and curbing
- Sand and water blasting
- Application of concrete curing compounds
- Installation of insulation, dampproofing, and moisture barrier materials below or at grade on or beneath concrete walls and slabs
- Concrete coring and cutting
- Sheet piling, lagging, and shoring of trenches and excavations
- Fire watch activities
Requirements
- High School or Vocational and/or relevant work experience
- Minimum 1-3+ years of experience within the construction industry
- Proven ability to excel in a fast-paced environment
- Strong team player with a positive attitude
- Hard working and motivated
Work Environment / Physical Demands
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time, and safely maneuver around the nearby presence of various construction equipment and vehicles, on an active construction site
- Prepared to regularly encounter moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, and a variety of outside weather conditions
- Able to climb temporary or permanent stairs, and ladders
- Able to bend, squat, kneel, crawl, crouch, balance, and stoop, reach on a regular basis
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
Travel may be required, with occasional out-of-state and overnight travel. Company per diem policy will apply. Must currently live in New England.
