Laboratory Technician - Overnight

About the role

As a Laboratory Technician at IDEXX, you perform laboratory testing that helps veterinarians diagnose and treat pets. Responsibilities

• Use automated analyzers, microscopes, and other laboratory diagnostic tools to perform analyses and tests that diagnose animal illnesses, injuries, and diseases in support of veterinary animal treatment.
• Perform diagnostic tests on blood, urine, fecal, or pet biopsy samples received in the lab daily.
• Set up and run lab tests, then read and release results according to SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures).
• Specialize in one or more of the following departments:
  • Sample Management: Receive, prepare, and accession veterinary samples (blood, urine, feces, and biopsies) for laboratory analysis and testing.
  • Parasitology: Prepare fecal samples for diagnosis, identify parasites using fecal flotation and various microscopic techniques.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
• A 2-, 3-, or 4-year degree in a Science-related field is preferred but not required.
• Experience as a Veterinary Technician (RVT, LVT, CVT) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT or MT) is a plus.
• Experience setting up, running, and reading lab tests, and operating laboratory equipment (microscopes, pipetting, and/or clinical diagnostic analyzers) is ideal.
• Positive attitude and ability to bring energy into the lab to support colleagues.
• Strong teamwork skills and a sense of responsibility.
• Attention to detail and ability to work reliably and precisely.
• Able to meet physical requirements: standing and sitting for extended periods, phone and computer use, extended reach, lifting up to 50lb, and specific vision abilities (close, color, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus).
• Potential exposure to biohazards, agents known to cause zoonotic diseases, and hazardous chemicals.
• Reliable and dependable attendance is an essential function of the position.

Schedule

• Tuesday–Saturday, 12:00 AM–8:30 AM.
• Every-other-Sunday rotation with the same hours; if you work a Sunday, you get a different day off during the week (5-day/week work schedule).
• Shifts and hours may vary slightly depending on business needs.
