Two positions available: Laboratory Technician II ($20.46 - $25.57/hour) and Senior Laboratory Technician ($21.90 - $27.36/hour).

About the role

Support laboratory staff with sample custody and clerical activities, including logging samples, data entry, file maintenance, sample disposal, kit preparation, supply ordering, and performing sample custodial duties.

Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative and clerical support: answer inquiries, reply to emails, manage files, communicate with internal and external customers, and maintain inventory.
  • Verify Chain of Custody completion, sample holding times, and log samples in LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System).
  • Take sample temperatures and pH.
  • Place, track, and receive orders; download Safety Data Sheets and Certificates of Analysis; log supplies in LIMS.
  • Prepare and dispose of samples; assemble sample kits and coolers with appropriate paperwork; schedule pick-ups.
  • Monitor and record temperatures of incubators and refrigerators twice daily.
  • Laboratory Technician II: Assist chemists with sample testing.
  • Senior Laboratory Technician:
    • Perform sample testing for turbidity and conductivity.
    • Assist Scientist II with sample preparation.
    • Conduct laboratory safety checks.
    • Manage preventive maintenance scheduling and track service appointments.
    • Review invoices and purchase records; upload and maintain receipt documentation.
  • Perform all other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Laboratory Technician II:
    • Associate’s degree in science, biology, or environmental science (minimum). Bachelor’s degree preferred.
    • Previous relevant work experience preferred but not required.
  • Senior Laboratory Technician:
    • Two years of relevant experience.
    • Associate’s degree in science, biology, or environmental science (minimum). Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Valid State of Florida Class E Driver’s License (must possess and maintain).

Physical Demands

  • Regularly stand and walk to a significant degree; use hands to operate tools or feel; talk or hear.
  • Frequently pull, push, kneel, bend, squat, crawl, and twist.
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds; occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

  • Outdoor conditions: rugged terrain, slippery surfaces, varying weather (heat, cold, dry, wet), noise, darkness, brightness, vibrations, traffic, biological agents, chemicals, gas/fumes, magnetic fields, or congested areas.
  • Indoor conditions: flat surfaces, noise, sitting with occasional walking and standing.
