About the role

The technician will join a research team interested in learning more about how nervous systems work. The team uses genetic, cell biological, and behavioral approaches to study how a nematode roundworm, Caenorhabditis elegans, responds to environmental stimuli.

Responsibilities

  • Performs routine tests required in support of laboratory work and experiments.
  • Follows established safety procedures.
  • Maintains laboratory records of procedures.
  • Aids in preparing laboratory reports.
  • Records experimental data from research using graphs, logs, charts and statistical summaries.
  • Performs general laboratory maintenance as required.
  • May assist in surgical procedures.
  • Communicates respectfully with a diverse community.

Requirements

  • Familiarity with laboratory practices, including methods, procedures, and techniques, as well as handling equipment and instruments.
  • Ability to work independently with good judgment and organizational, time management, and communication skills.
  • Willingness to work with/be exposed to hazardous materials such as radioactive materials, infectious materials, and/or hazardous chemicals.
  • Knowledge of computers and software applications.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Completed coursework in biology, genetics, biochemistry, cell biology, etc.
  • General laboratory experience, including with molecular cloning, C. elegans and/or tissue culture, etc.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

  • Familiarity with laboratory practices, including methods, procedures, and techniques, as well as handling equipment and instruments.
  • Ability to work independently with good judgment and organizational, time management, and communication skills.

Pay

Hiring Range: Minimum $18.00, Maximum $20.00
