About the role
The Laboratory Technician will perform material testing, quality control checks, and data analysis on metal products in a manufacturing environment. This role requires a strong understanding of laboratory techniques and equipment, as well as knowledge of metal properties, manufacturing processes, and quality assurance standards. The ideal candidate will be methodical, detail-oriented, and have a passion for working with materials to ensure product quality and consistency.
What you'll do
- C Conduct testing on raw materials, in-process materials, and finished products to ensure they meet quality standards.
- P Perform chemical and physical tests on metals, including hardness, tensile strength, corrosion resistance, and more.
- P Prepare and analyze test samples using laboratory equipment such as spectrometers, microscopes, tensile testers, and hardness testers.
- P Document test results and maintain accurate lab records, including data analysis and conclusions.
- P Ensure all testing equipment is calibrated, maintained, and functioning properly.
- P Assist in troubleshooting product defects or deviations by conducting root cause analysis.
- P Work closely with production and engineering teams to support quality control initiatives and process improvements.
- P Monitor and ensure compliance with safety protocols in the lab and manufacturing environment.
- P Prepare reports for summarizing findings, including test data, recommendations, and potential improvements.
- P Assist in developing and refining testing procedures and methodologies.
- P Maintain a clean and organized lab environment, ensuring proper disposal of hazardous materials.
- P Participate in product development and research activities by providing testing support and material insights.
- P Assist in the preparation and submission of regulatory documentation, if applicable.
Qualifications
- A Associate’s degree in chemistry, Materials Science, Metallurgy, or a related field.
- B Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, Materials Science, Metallurgy, or a related field preferred.
- C Proven experience 3+ years working in a laboratory environment, preferably in a metal manufacturing or industrial setting.
- D Familiarity with laboratory testing equipment such as hardness testers, spectrometers, and microscopes.
- E Knowledge of metal properties, testing standards, and quality control procedures.
- F Strong understanding of safety protocols related to laboratory and manufacturing environments.
- G Proficient in data analysis, including the use of lab management software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.).
- H Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- I Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
- J Excellent communication skills and the ability to work as part of a cross-functional team.
