Laboratory Technician

Job Duties

• Captures and manages laboratory services provided within the Clinic.
• Collaborates with the Nursing Clinic Coordinator to develop laboratory services.
• Provides laboratory services to meet client needs according to clinic protocol.
• Performs phlebotomy services, microscopic exams, and various diagnostic tests.
• Prepares client specimens for external evaluation.
• Maintains laboratory equipment and completes required controls.
• Orders necessary supplies and assists the Laboratory Director with updates.
• Analyzes statistical data and reports on service costs.
• Compiles and maintains records for various programs.
• Maintains laboratory certifications and updates.
• Reports to work during public health emergencies.
• Performs other duties as needed.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• One year laboratory experience, including phlebotomy.
• Basic computer knowledge.
• Professional demeanor and good communication skills.
• Ability to plan and organize work.
• Fine and gross motor skills ability.

Physical Requirements

• Medium Work Level.
• Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently.
• Ability to communicate verbally and hear.
• May require walking, standing, bending, balancing, sitting, lifting up to 50 pounds.
• Exposure to infectious pathogens, blood, body fluids, and hazardous waste.
• May be exposed to a variety of work environments, including outside health department buildings.
• Occasional weekend and evening work, and on-call status.
