About the role

The Laboratory Supervisor leads the IEEM Biochemistry Lab for research and clinical laboratory operations at the Institute for Exercise and Environmental Medicine (IEEM). IEEM’s mission is to explore and define the limits to human functional capacity in health and disease, with the objective of improving the quality of life for human beings of all ages. The role involves a high degree of integrated teamwork with an engaged and supportive leadership team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in lab science
  • Five years of lab training or experience
  • Two years of experience supervising non-waived testing
  • Certification by an American Society of Clinical Pathologist or HHS-approved board
  • Two years of experience supervising direct reports

Responsibilities

  • Continuous maintenance and operation of laboratory equipment and storage equipment for blood and muscle samples
  • On-call for rare occurrences of freezer alarm triggers
  • Specify, develop, and facilitate procurement of research laboratory testing protocols
  • Ensure proper accreditation protocols are met for The Joint Commission (e.g., routine review and updates of policy and procedures)
  • Perform miscellaneous supervisory duties, including QMS reports, billing, QC review, ordering supplies, scheduling preventative maintenance for laboratory equipment, and routine bench work
  • Collaborate with investigators to provide technical knowledge at the planning and design stages of research protocols and support the laboratory portion of research projects throughout the project lifecycle
  • Research and evaluate new equipment as needed
  • Supervise lab personnel, including performance reviews, training and development, setting schedules, time-off approvals, interviews, hiring, and performance management
  • Serve as the lead liaison of the Biochemistry Lab with hospital departments
