About the role

The Supervisor oversees specimen handling, delivery, testing, and reporting in an efficient and cost-effective manner. They ensure compliance with regulatory, accrediting, and licensing requirements. The position involves establishing policies, procedures, and protocols, managing resources, and providing training and support to the team.

Responsibilities

  • Establishes policies, procedures, and protocols for testing in a defined laboratory section(s).
  • Defines analytic accuracy, precision, sensitivity, and reference ranges for test methods.
  • Oversees quality control testing and instrument maintenance.
  • Reports test results in a timely manner according to established laboratory protocols.
  • Affords competency of team members.
  • Manages resources such as productivity, supplies, instruments, and equipment.
  • Plans work and completes job responsibilities in an efficient and productive manner.
  • Oversees inventory management and provides input into the budget process.
  • Performs accurate and appropriate testing of specimens received in the laboratory, according to established laboratory protocol and procedures.
  • Determines, coordinates, and supervises daily staffing assignments and levels.
  • Provides direction, orientation, training, coaching, and mentoring to staff.
  • Performs or assists with performance evaluations and disciplinary actions.
  • Follows established procedures for laboratory quality control, ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, quality standards, compliance activities, and policies and procedures.
  • Affords quality of services delivered and facilitates staff development programs.
  • Affords staff compliance with regulatory and departmental and organizational policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Affords the development of training material and the competency assessment tools used by the department and ensures that all associated documentation is kept up to date.

Education and Certification Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree (Required)
  • Clinical Lab Supervisor License (SU LICENSE) - State of Florida (FL)

Additional Job Information

  • Complexity of Work: Advanced knowledge of laboratory procedures and instrumentation.
  • Requires critical thinking skills, effective communication skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
  • Five (5) years of experience as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist in the area of supervision.
